Use Year and 2042

This probably belongs on the Debate Board, but let's give it a shot...

I just bought BCV with a Use Year of Dec. I sold my Dec 2002 back with MB. I think that I have the Absolute worst year possible when it comes to 2042, or maybe not.....

All Contracts currently are set to expire 2042, so I will never get December 2042 points (they would become available Dec 1, 2042), but maybe I could borrow them and use them between 12/01/2041 and 01/31/2042 for a 400 point stay when they are combined with my 2041 point allotment.

Sorry, to bring up such a dreary topic, but it is a slow day at work, and funny.... My mind is on Disney

By the time 2042 rolls around, I'll be 85 and DH will be 89. I hope I have the energy to care at that point!

Our kids will be in their 60s. Let the grandchildren worry about it!!!



You will probably get some sincere speculation... I think this has been discussed before and there were some very specific opinions.

Well, I'll be 78 and if I take after my parents, who are in very good health, I'll still be going to WDW, so this is
concern!!!!!!!

My initial inclination is to borrow, but I bet they will have some kind of rule by then not allowing that just because of that reason...the people with Sept-Dec use years will be doing it to get the most out of their points. If Disney doesn't make a rule against it, that's the best alternative I see.

I have 2 contracts...one with a September use year and one with an October use year, so I'll be doing a big autumn extravangza that last year!!!!!!!!

I am sorry, if I have offended anyone with my questions. I was not kidding. I was honestly just sitting here in my office thinking about it. I think that it is a valid issue. I will have just turned 71 by the time that 01/31/2042 rolls around. Knowing my spending habits, I will not retire until I am 67. That would only give me 4 years on this current contract.

I simply don't care! At least not today!

I really enjoy planning my trips, and one or two years at a time is plenty to fill my magic meter right up. Lord willing, if I'm still enjoying my WDW trips 30 years from now, that's enough time to think about it then.

If it makes you happy to think about it now, go for it! At least this is more interesting than another refillable mug thread!

True, thsi is quite soem time away, but really it brings up the question then if a December use year is worth less than other use years since we possily won't be able to get as many points in the long run as those who have an eailer use year date. You coudl say even now at $10 per point at my 150 points that is $1500 less worth what soemoen else has if they get to use thsoe last year's points.
Am I off here?

They already have one to control that. Within the rules it is written that they can suspend banking and borrowing if they see fit. That would be the perfect time to suspend.

But on the other hand I think that by then they will have come up with a plan to allow you to extend your ownership and it won't be a concern.

It's a very valid topic...and has been discussed here before.

DVC actually ends early in 2042....end of March, I think.

Many people here think that DVD will have to institute some special rules on borrowing and banking the last few years to avoid having way too many points and not enough time to use them.

Also, it has been hypothesized that DVD will offer existing members and extension, or a chance to re-up for another 40-50 years.

My guess is the last one....what else would Disney do with these units? Of course, who knows what WDW will look like in 40 years?



It's fun to think about such things.....that's a lot different than worrying about them!

Actually, there is no points for the year 2042 as things are written. Everything expires January 31, 2042 and since January is not a Use Year month there are no points issued for 2042. As far as December, 2041 points are concerned. Who knows. I suspect that the others who have posted on this already are correct in assuming that borrowing/banking will be suspended or governed in some way or there will be options to extend contracts or something along those lines.

Hey, you may be in a better position than most of us. If banking and borrowing are suspended, you will definitely have a shot at Christmas '41. Too bad you can't make that ressie now and sell it on Ebay.

It's been discussed, but I don't think we've ever come to an actual,accurate conclusion. I think the closest we've come is assuming that long before 2042 DVC will come up with a way to extend the end date. We'll all jump on the new program and be long dead before we ever have to worry about the new date.

Actually, it may not be the 2042 points that I should be worried about. After thinking about, I will only have 60 days to use my 2041 points.

Why don't all of you start borrowing this week. That way nobody will have any points available come Dec 1, 2041 except for those of us with Dec Use year. MAYBE I COULD EVEN A GRAND VILLA at my 7 month window.... Counting the days Until May 8th, 2041 when I book that GV for a week with the Great Grand Kids!
