I know all the ups and downs about Xmas at WDW but what about US?

I think (have to double check with DW to see if she was serious) we are going to WDW the full week before Xmas. I know for WDW the crowds will build until they get crazy the Saturday before and go to 11 starting Monday, but what about US.

The thought is Sun - Wed at WDW, Thursday US to see HP and maybe NASA or resort hopping Friday and leave Saturday.

Is it just going to be too busy Thursday for a first timer at US?

Welcome to the Darkside!

The crowd pattern isn't that different at Universal Orlando, so expect crowds to increase steadily in the 7-10 days before Christmas, and remain high through the end of the year.

What I can't tell from your post is if you're considering doing both Universal parks in one day or just IoA (where WWoHP is). I wouldn't recommend both in just one day for a first-timer there, but it can be done if you're willing to settle for the highlights. If you are interested in just IoA I'd say do it, you're an experienced enough park-goer to have a good time. I think the Thursday you're considering will probably be the last semi-sane day there until January.

Nice to see a friendly face (even if it is Max Headroom), its weird here the colors are all different. :goodvibes

I think only IoA, at one time I saw an attraction list for both and will have to see. But as long as we can ride HP and Kraken that should be OK. Kraken is in IoW right? ;) Just have to convince DW that HP is not a roller coaster.

Last trip, first week of May '11, we did 6 full days at the parks and I just don't see needing that many days this trip.

We are kind of Rope Droppers (get there 10 minutes or so before the gates open) and know the drill.

This trip is mostly to see the Xmas decorations. May not do a WDW party if going to IoW. I can say that over here right. :duck:

Kraken is at SeaWorld...not IOA. You can ride Hulk and Dragon Challenge at IOA.

We went a few years for 5 days with our 5th full daying being Christmas. We went there expecting the parks to be packed, and it was FAR from it. In fact, it was one of the slowest times I have ever seen the parks.

Christmas night me and my sister basically had the park to ourselves. Christmas eve at the HP area was so empty as well. All the employees we talked with where talking about how nice it was to have a break from the crowds.

It was cold however so that might have held the crowds back. Overall, I would go back doing that time of year again in a heartbeat! Just don't go after Christmas! The hotel the day after was a MADHOUSE with people checking in and kids running all over the place :crazy2:

IoA will have Seuss Landing spruced up with Christmas decorations and they are cool, don't recall a ton in other areas there. The Studios' decorations include a Christmas tree or two and select floats from the Macy's parade in NY. Others here will know more....

::laughing::laughing:

you can mention the motherland over here anytime you feel like it.
we are all in the same family at the dis.
even the red headed step children...

hope you don't have crowds if you go before christmas.

it's the one time of the year i avoid.

I have to remember to watch my frame of reference here. By "see the Xmas Decorations" I mean like the Gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian in Walt Disney World. :goodvibes

This, exactly. The week before Xmas is pleasantly tolerable, crowdwise. Even Xmas day isn't that crowded. 12/26-12/31 is a madhouse, though. That week is the busiest week of the year, every year.

I assume you mean 12/26-12/31.

Oh and OP here this thread is moot. I asked my DW "Are you really thinking we can go this Xmas" and she was "oh I guess not". :( :furious:

Yes...I'm sure he meant 12/26...not 12/16.
