In response to today's events, here is part of a message I received from Continental Airlines

Current as of Thu., Aug. 10, 2006 5:00 a.m. Central. Information is updated as it is received.

For all flights to, from, and within the United States
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security has determined that there is a high risk of terrorism against U.S. civil aviation, and the need for extra restrictions to assure the security of air travel.

On instruction from the Transportation Security Administration, Continental Airlines advises customers that no liquids or gels are permitted inside the sterile area through the screening checkpoint or be in accessible baggage or on one's person except:

Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby of small child is traveling
Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger's ticket
Insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines
In addition, customers may not bring liquids and gels purchased inside the sterile area onboard the aircraft. Examples of liquids and gels include beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and items of a similar consistency.

These measures apply to all scheduled and charter flight operations that depart from and operate within the United States and its territories and possessions.

All passengers are advised to travel light. Accessible property should have minimal clutter to expedite the screening process.

Passengers should check-in as normal, but should expect longer processing times at the airport.

Continental Airlines regrets any inconveniences caused.

This is the first notice I received, check your carrier

I just hope everyone takes this advisory to heart, and cooperates. No one is so important to be able to eschew such consideration.

Well, there goes the bringing of a case of water on my next trip....damn terrorists!!!!!

Jet Blue has announced it will allow a third checked bag per passanger in order to limit carryon. Others will most likely follow

I know they are just trying to be careful and watchful, but no beverages? So, no more cokes or water bottles on board? Maybe it will be temporary...

you will still be served beverages you just can't bring your own.

Yes, I know. I am just complaining because I get really thirsty on the plane, and sometimes I will buy a coke or bottled water at one of the shops in the airport and bring it onboard. But no longer....

In the past, with heightened security, they were allowing bottles with manufacturer SEALS still intact to be taken aboard.

I would think that this MIGHT be how it goes AFTER this initial "Condition Orange" is lifted.

This is where the specific airline will really make a big difference. Some airlines will have enough beverages on-board to make up for the folks who would have brought on their own in order to have "enough" -- others won't.

Saw on the Tampa news this am that even makeup has to go in a checked in bag, at TIA.

Airtran has posted a similar advisory. Liquids and gels may be packed in your checked baggage.

No beverages - period.

Oh well... what ever it takes to keep us all safe!

With so much info. centered on liquids i wonder if the government intercepted or heard of a specific threat.

The explosives were going to be taken on board in liquid form via fizzy drinks. That is why any form of liquid is banned. Baby food is allowed but if baby milk is being used, you have to drink some to prove it is. Medication in tablet form is allowed but nothing in liquid form unless you have a medical document to back it up. That is the rules in the UK now. I assume it would be the same for some situations in the States.

Ok everyone, what do you think about diaper rash cream? Baby girl needs it all the time (sensitive skin) and we're flying Monday....

Re baby cream-its similar to lotion so I assume it will be banned. Perhaps if she had a prescription from her dr for it, it would be ok??? I would lather the stuff on really thick and change her diapers frequently, trying to leaves of the cream on when you wipe. Maybe even try putting Vaseline under that to make a better barrier? That should at least get you through the flight especially if its not long.

Yes, There is a specific threat. Homeland security just held a news conference that identified the threat as being on nineteen flights originating in the UK with US destinations. They believe the terrorists were planning on using liquid explosives, hence, the restrictions.

Thanks god they found out about it.

if prescriptions must match a name, that means I can't use the little pill boxes and bring just what i need?
Would I need to bring the original little brown bottle?
:confused3

rotten terrorists!

Regarding beverages, wouldn't you still be able to purchase beverages at the food/concession areas INSIDE the security area? For example, once you go through security and get to the gate areas, there are always CS places and newsstands selling a variety of bottled drinks. Are they pulling those off the shelves? If not, my thought is that those should be fine to take onboard.
