Most airports have pharmacies/drug stores. Why not purchase the cold medicine once you arrive or give it to baby before you go through security? I definitely wouldn't be pressing my luck trying to sneak things through security right now!

Only thing I thought is that most shops, both sides of customs, are closed here in the UK. Might be wise to check with your airport if this is the case with them before you fly if you intend to rely on shops.

Oy... I just remembered something. Baby has a cold - I was planning to give her cold medicine before boarding to help with the flight. I guess I'm going to have to wing it. I'll bring it to security in it's original packaging still sealed and hope for the best. Otherwise, I guess I'm going to have to be a scofflaw and figure out a way to get the 3 inch bottle through security undetected...

I would call your pediatrician and ask about getting a prescription cold medicine since you'll be flying. Then it should pass security OK. Be sure to tell the doc that you're flying.

I'm sorry - I should have said I was kidding! I am not going to sneak it in! I am actually going to call my Ped. and ask for a note and bring the bottle sealed with me. I don't think that will be a problem. We're talking infants tylenol cold so I honestly don't think it'll be a big deal. however, the real terror will be the screaming baby if we can't give her the medicine to help her ears... :confused3

Thanks, Katy for the info on the cream for the baby. It's a product call Bordeaux's Butt Paste and it's like liquid gold in price - I definitely don't want to have to throw it away.

OMG!!! DO NOT do that. You will be arrested, and some cold medicine is just not worth it. Why not just take what you need, give to baby right before you board, then get her new at the airport gift shop, or at Publix when you arrrive. I am sure the resort will be willing to help you out considering the circumstances. Good luck to ya and I hope the baby feels better. :goodvibes
Or take her to the Dr. and get a precription for the med so she can take it on the plane.

Do aerosal cans, like hair spray, do ok in checked luggage? This may be a dumb question but I don't know, I usually carry on everything like this.

I guess it's probably wise to enquire first when at check-in, but I know that is what the BBC reported when they showed pictures relating to each area. If your flight do have a problem with it, just store it in your checked luggage and it wont get thrown away. You wont see it till your destination, but at least it wont be thrown away. That advice is the same for someone who was asling about their lipstick. Lipstick isn't really essential items, like nappies, glasses, passports, medication etc, so that is a definite no-no as hand luggage. Put it in your checked luggage and it wont get thrown.

We are flying end of Sept to WDW and I am wondering if these measures will still be in place then. I have spent a small fortune on toys and entertainment for my two year old which may not have been necessary. Not much you can do though, I would rather we were all safe. Besides there will be plenty of other families on board in the same situation. I normally worry about keeping my son from causing any disruption to other passengers, but if I don't have any equipment to do that with, I'm just not going to worry about it. I can only do so much, not work miracles :lmao:

What a sad time we live in. :sad2:

Yes, it is a sad time and it's not going to change. These people want to kill us. They would kill us all if they could.

:surfweb: flying out in 30 days for our trip....dd12 wasn't to hip on flying anyway......great can't wait till she get's up and turn's on the tv ! guess this end's the question of carry on or checking the luggage?

Also remember to leave the jokes at home when you go through security. TSA agents are not known for their sense of humor. :(

If in doubt about something please place it in your checked luggage. I am sure they are really going to be tough for awhile on all liquids.

Are there regulations concerning laptops, iPods, cameras and cell phones or are these allowed on as carry on items? I'd hate to check any of these and maybe it would be better to ship them down. Anyone know?

Anyone heard about inhalers? I have never had to use it on the plane, but I would rather have it than not.

Right now they are fine on US flights but banned on International.

About the lipstick question, GMA said this morning that no chapstick allowed so I would guess that includes lipstick..
Sounds like it would be alot easier to just not even have a carry on luggage at all, just put it all in checked luggage. Bring a very small bag with absoulte essentials only, meds, book, ID, $$, camera. I am rethinking the laptop for our trip next month. Guess we will see how this pans out. I would rather leave the laptop at home than pack it in checked luggage.....

An inhaler should be carried with you. Do you have the prescription for it? Could you get a copy of it before you fly?

to those that are concerned about meds, diaper rash cream, cold med for baby, etc... simply bring enough to use prior to boarding in your purse/carryon and put the remainder in your checked luggage... it's not rocket science... carry as little as possible on board with you (really, what *do* you need? your travel docs and some stuff to keep the kids from getting bored plus diaper changing equipment)... everything else will be waiting for you at the other end...

i.e. for the infant tylenol... put a brand new one in the checked luggage and bring an opened one... does baby before going thru security and you're good to go...

i.e. for butt paste... chuck a little in a ziplock bag, use it at the last diaper change before going thru security and have the rest of the jar in your checked luggage for when you arrive... if you need to change a diaper before getting to your resort, go grab your luggage rather than having the DME folks do it...

prescription meds... put all of one or two day's worth in a script bottle w/your name on it and put the rest in the monday/tuesday/wednesday containers in your checked luggage... bring a list of your meds and doses w/you in the event your checked luggage gets lost so you can have a local pharmacy get you replacements...

it's a total pita but it can be done smoothly if everyone cooperates...

I know...I have visions of the laptop being chucked onto the conveyor belt for baggage...smash.

At least they're still ok on domestic flights...for now.

I don't fly again til November, so some of this may have calmed down by then. I can certainly get a scrip from the MD by then too.

if prescriptions must match a name, that means I can't use the little pill boxes and bring just what i need?
Would I need to bring the original little brown bottle?
:confused3

rotten terrorists!

I haven't read all the posts so not sure if this has been answered.

As a nurse- I always recommend my patients who travel- leave the bulk of their medicines at home- but bring the needed doses with them. To eliminate any problems when checking in- I tell them to go to their pharmacies where the prescriptions were filled and request a second labeled bottle- with same info as first and that way they could remove the doses they need and place in each bottle. They then have the prescription they need- the pills they need but don't have to risk loss of all other prescriptions

Most pharmacies will do this- but I suggest you call and ask to speak to the pharmacist in advance- especially if it is a busier pharmacy.

WHy do people insist on trying to break the rules? There was a terror plot aimed at blowing up 7-13 airplanes, so what at a minimum 1500 people. And they were planning to do it by bringing liquids on board. Don't you think the terrorists consider the profiles of folks flying and consider putitng it in liquid medicine bottles, especially kid medicines?

Why do you think you are more important than the safety of the rest of the flying public?

Get through security, but what you need for your child at the little ddrugstores they ahve there, dose your child before boarding, and then toss what's left.

Or try chewables, melatables, and add them to airline supplied drinks.
