Sounds like those of you flying in the near future might really want to cut back on your carry ons. They are showing pictures of the airports and everyone is having their carry-ons thouroughly checked by security. Looks like you will get through faster (and happier) if you just check most of what you are bringing.
Let's be happy that this is a "procactive" hassle, rather than the all out AFTER something happened. Thanks to everyone out there working to keep us safe. They have made 21 arrests in this plot already.

From the TSA website:
Beverages purchased in the boarding area (beyond the checkpoint) must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted on board the aircraft.

So, everyone flying must rely on the airline to provide any in-flight beverages.

Regarding beverages, wouldn't you still be able to purchase beverages at the food/concession areas INSIDE the security area? For example, once you go through security and get to the gate areas, there are always CS places and newsstands selling a variety of bottled drinks. Are they pulling those off the shelves? If not, my thought is that those should be fine to take onboard.

They have reported there could be a second screening at gates. One of my news channels very specifically showed signs going up "Drinks for consumption in terminal only). They are requiring everything to be thrown out prior to boarding

if prescriptions must match a name, that means I can't use the little pill boxes and bring just what i need?
Would I need to bring the original little brown bottle?
:confused3

I would still bring just what you need but it must be in the original container. I would take the "extras" put them in the pill box and leave the pillbox home.

If you do not desperately need the items when you arrive at your resort - what about overnighting items ?
Send a package to your resort with your name, address, date of arrival and reservation # on it. US MAIL, FEDEX & UPS all have over night, 3-day, & normal package delivery.

MEDs- get a note from your pharmancy or doctor

Baby Items - ask your resort if a gift shop carries what you need.
Also ask if a local pharmacy near the resort can send items to you at the resort. I bet the front desk will order a few items for you from the pharmacy BEFORE you arrive (you just have to pay for them). OR - you ask for the pharmacy phone # - you do the ordering- and have it waiting for you when you arrive at the resort.

Just a few suggestions

rotten terrorists!

Aren't they are only referring to liquid medications?

Does anyone have any info on lipstick? I'd hate to have my favorite confiscated!

Ok everyone, what do you think about diaper rash cream? Baby girl needs it all the time (sensitive skin) and we're flying Monday....
According to the rules I would say no.

One guy on the Today show basically said if its not a solid, it wont be allowed. Toothpaste, gels, lotions, sunscreen, etc were all being tossed into huge rolling bins by people standing in the security lines at one airport. That stuff can go into your checked bags. Seems the plot was to have several people carry components on to the plane (in some sort of liquid form), then mix it on board to activate it. Since the items alone are harmless and because you cant access the checked baggage hold it can go there.

Now if coming from the UK, they arent allowing ANY carry on baggage. Everything except prescriptions (name matching ticket), baby stuff, ticket must go into your checked luggage. So far that hasnt been the case in the US, but I would leave room in your checked luggage, or have another bag to check just in case they do go that route.

Oy... I just remembered something. Baby has a cold - I was planning to give her cold medicine before boarding to help with the flight. I guess I'm going to have to wing it. I'll bring it to security in it's original packaging still sealed and hope for the best. Otherwise, I guess I'm going to have to be a scofflaw and figure out a way to get the 3 inch bottle through security undetected...

Yes. You could leave the extra at home and only bring what you need plus a day or two extra.

You can buy they to drink before boarding but they are not allowed on the plane.

All medications should be carried in original labeled containers. This was the case even before this event.

To everyone who is travelling, please double check you carry on baggage and reduce the contents as much as possible. If there is any doubt on whether it will or will not be allowed in a carry on - make sure to pack in it your checked baggage. PLEASE, do not give the TSA agents/flight crew/gate agents a hard time about these new rules!!! It is not their fault. It is the fault of these d@mn terrrorists!

I have to travel on Sunday and I am not happy about having to check my bag (including my laptop) but I understand that it is a necessary rule in order to protect the safety of all!!!

OMG!!! DO NOT do that. You will be arrested, and some cold medicine is just not worth it. Why not just take what you need, give to baby right before you board, then get her new at the airport gift shop, or at Publix when you arrrive. I am sure the resort will be willing to help you out considering the circumstances. Good luck to ya and I hope the baby feels better. :goodvibes

Most airports have pharmacies/drug stores. Why not purchase the cold medicine once you arrive or give it to baby before you go through security? I definitely wouldn't be pressing my luck trying to sneak things through security right now!

The advice here in the UK, is you can take anything relating to changing a nappy. The pictures relating to this included nappy cream, wipes etc. As that is from the UK where the threats came from, I would assume it would be the same in the US

VERY VERY BAD IDEA!!! As PO said, just give it to her before the flight and then get some when you land. Imagine what the vacation would be like without you!!!

Excellent point! Yes, we all are inconvenienced by this stuff, but we can be proactive. If everyone obeys the rules, the process will go more smoothly. If you're in doubt-don't take it. You aren't going to the outer regions of the jungle, you're going to WDW. You don't need to take everything you own. I plan on bringing less in November and picking stuff up when I get there. I may actually use the shampoos and soaps they give me at the resorts instead of bringing my own.

This would be a good question for the Disney folks-if I FedEx a package to myself at the resort, will they accept it? That might be a way of avoiding airport problems.

I'm suddenly very glad that I managed to get my grandfather's ashes back to Chicago last week. They probably would have thought he was gunpowder or something. Even though the container was labeled and I had a signed document from the funeral home...
