US STOPPING ALL FLIGHTS INTO THE UNITED STATES FROM EUROPE FOR 30 DAYS.

I thought his press conference was pretty good.
I don't know I mean, I found terrifying how they are planning for all of us to get it so to build "community immunity" without any evidence that if you catch it once you don't catch it twice, in fact, there is evidence from China that points to the opposite. The other unsettling thing was when they said they will stop testing people with symtoms and that they won't need to call 111. They will only test those in hospital. This means that they won't have any idea on how many cases there will be, they won't be able to prevent people from going out and the virus will be rampant. But I guess that's what they want. Having a 40 yr old friend in Italy currently in Icu this approach doesn't make me feel comfortable. They are saying they are following the"science"but what science? Because the Who's science is not saying what they are saying.

Well after the decision of total inaction taken from the UK today they shall soon be on that list too.
.
What is absolutely fascinating is that the majority of people here appear to have chosen to work from home or self isolate or at the very least socially distance. Everywhere is extraordinarily quiet, the roads, the shops, there are photographs of deserted railway stations, tubes, airports etc. Maybe Boris’ decision was the line of least resistance. By not demanding that people isolate, they appear to be voluntarily choosing to do so. What peculiar folk we are!😂

Yeah I have already decided I will not be sending my kids to school on Monday. If they are incapable to take the right and sensible decision, then I will!

Gonna say again. If you are concerned about TP, get a bidet (and yes, you can retrofit your current toilet seat for less than $50. With a bidet, you need no toilet paper. I'm on vacation now, but can't wait to get home so I can stop worry about TP (LOL...that's tongue firmly planted in cheek). But, seriously, there's no angst about TP in Japan...for a reason. Everyone uses a bidet. :-)

I nearly scalded my bum when I tried to use the bidet at our hotel in Spain. Kinda scared me off. 😬

I did find the part about letting it spread to build up immunity pretty scary too. However, compared to what I'm seeing in the US, the overall press meeting seemed far more strategic.

Its all great and all they stopping flights from infected areas but if they were really concerned about the spread of this, they would have shut down all airports for all travel. I say this cause most of the cases have come from people that have traveled outside of the country.

Originally yes, but there are community spread cases now. We were too late to take action to prevent this spread.

However, I do think we may see a shut down of travel (airports, train stations, metro).

Travelers who are coming in still aren't being screened. A friends husband flew in yesterday from London and he wasn't screened for anything at Dulles. Another friend came in from Mexico two days ago through MKE and was not screened for anything. So don't think it is being stopped at the airports.

My husband landed at JFK from ITALY on Monday night, right after Italy shut down. He was screened in Italy, met with a doctor, filled out lots of paperwork. At JFK, not so much as a temperature check and he boarded a domestic flight home. He was completely prepared for additional screening or something especially coming from such a hotspot.

That is exactly why airports should be shut down.

How would people who are away from home get back?

This may sound rude and mean, but once this started spreading to the U.S. and Canada people knew the risks. Now that are starting to close a lot of things to help stop the spread, the airport is the next thing. I'm only saying that cause the majority of the cases in Canada and the U.S. have come from people who have been out of the country.

No, it doesn't sound rude and mean but, maybe, a tad parochial.
Should I assume you are referring to only North American airports although even their closure would affect international winter visitors who left home long before this outbreak?
Many people who are not from your part of the world would be affected as they try to get home from other places that are not part of your world. Sometimes you have to consider the bigger picture.

Goodness knows I think much of the US response to this virus has been too little, too late but if a passenger was screened 7-8 hours earlier in Italy would a second screening be necessary once he reached an American airport? And is the passenger required to self quarantine for 14 days upon arrival?

There is no required quarantine - we are doing it voluntarily for fourteen days. It is required if you show symptoms I believe. He received no direct instructions on that. Well it is almost twelve hours between the screening before you board until clearing customs - seems like it would at least have been another touch point but who knows.

Having 852 rolls of toilet paper in your house is NOT preparation it is full on panic. The stores running out of hand soap (have you seen the containers in Walmart full of these little bottles before this??) is not preparation it is panic.

A LOT of going on is panic not preparation.

Or capitalism. Many of the hoarders aren’t keeping supplies, they are just opportunistic & making money off the situation (which I am not condoning)

England and Ireland now Included in the ban.

U.S. citizens may always return home, although which airports they land in are subject to near future limitation and quarantining might be imposed upon arrival at some point.

Many people here disagreed with my prediction of Disney closing DL and WDW.
Many people may also again disagree with this prediction, but I truly believe we will see domestic travel restrictions between states hit hardest. Just like the announcement by Disney, and the spread of this virus, life is going to change real fast for all of us for at least the next few months. Just look at how many things got shut down in the last 24 to 48 hours.

Yes, a second screening at arrival is necessary because a virus in the human body does not take a 7-8 hour break for the convenience of its host.

Also, someone infected can go from having minor symptoms to lying in the ICU within 24 hours. That's why it's important to monitor yourself for at least a week since that sudden turn of health usually happens after the 6th day on average. And, hopefully, you will be at home with a family member when that happens so someone can call or take you to emergency.
