US Gymnastics Olympic Trials

I have the feeling Gabby lost a lot of fire when she realized its basically impossible to defend her AA title, and is only continuing on to keep the name alive, and the money rolling in. Her family depends on her 100%. Its sickening. They show up to competitions like they own the place, including bringing a little dog. The family lives out in LA in a very nice house, all paid for by Gabby. Most gyms won't even touch her, and when she went to her current gym, it made their other elite athlete transfer to another gym. She also missed a lot of training before trials for personal reasons.

I'm also starting to wonder if the injury was real. I wouldn't put it past her mom to make things super dramatic, and lie. Stuff in gymnastics gets out, and no one, I mean no one, ever said she was on crutches once. They are clearly setting up the story for why Gabby won't repeat as AA champ, and help market her "Story"

Not true. Gabby and Nia Dennis became good friends. After a few camps and competitions, Marta told their coach to up their games and push them harder. When the coach gave into Gabby's mom and did not up the game, Nia left. Nia and Gabby are still friends.

I, too, wonder if Gabby truly had a broken knee cap. Every person I've known, including myself, who has had a broken knee cap has had to have surgery.

I wasn't saying that Nia left because she didn't like Gabby, but probably if Gabby hadn't come, she'd still be there. She lost a lot of focus and attention from the coaches. Gabby was the focus and star. I know they are still friends. I broke a small bone in my foot and was in SERIOUS pain.

Is that the first time she left Chow's or the second? Is that before she moved overnight to LA to find fame and fortune? Is that before or after she left behind a trail of unpaid gym bills? Was that before or after she accused a gym of racism?

Unfortunately, Gabby is not advised well. She doesn't appear to be doing it for the love of gymnastics, but for the love of supporting her family. And it shows.

I'd be interested from those who were there in person... it certainly seemed like she alienated herself while other girls were cheering each other on. Was that true or the camera angle?


I'm worried this will be the Gabby Douglass Olympics... will she fail? Instead, it should be celebrating Simone Biles and the other amazing 4 girls.

I was there in person...Gabby isolated herself from all the competitors through the entire meet- both nights. Consensus among many we spoke to is she is entitled, spoiled, and needed to make the team due to endorsements. That being said, she will likely only do bars in Rio....

Not surprising. Gabby isolated herself from the girls in London as well. At that time many wondered if it was lack of maturity on Gabby's part. Now I wonder if it's a lack of social skills.

Going back to the broken knee - Gabby's mom said the knee was broken the day before Worlds, which was late October. If Gabby was on crutches for two months, why did she look so good at the American Cup in early March? Here's a link to that competition:

At that point it looked like she could give Simone a run for her money for Gold. It's just strange.

It's not like Gabby is falling all over the place though. She fell off beam twice and missed a connection or two. She had a rocky trials. Okay. Gabby has the potential to clean herself up and perform like it's nobody's business when it counts. We know this because this is something Gabby does. And, if she doesn't, well that's on her. The same goes for all of the girls. It must be rough to have all of that stress on you plus having a mental break when it comes to performing. Either way, I'm rooting for her like I'm rooting for all of the girls. I know they will be fantastic come Rio!

Gabby needs to not let her mother speak for her. Point blank.

Regarding isolating herself, this quad of girls has kind of changed that. In the past, it was common for girls to just go to the side and concentrate on your next event. Shawn Johnson, Nastia Liukin did the same for example. Now these new girls are different. They like to huddle together and be around each other. Maybe Gabby prefers to be alone and focus. Especially after performing not so well. I don't know. I don't know these girls personally so I'm not going to say either way if someone is standoffish and snobby. It would be surprising though since they all seem to be friends, including Gabby.
