US Bonds question

Ok, so I am trying to get a lot of paperwork that has been accumulating in my desk over the year(s) organized and while going through some of my son's papers I found a certificate for a US Bond. He received a few when he was born and christened and a few through the years as birthday gifts. My ex and I split up when my son was 7 months, and I always thought that the certificates my son received for his birth/christening were still with papers my ex has. He has looked, and says they are nowhere to be found.

SO, does anyone have any idea how I go about tracking down these bonds? I know that they take years to mature, but I would like to have everything organized and handy for the day that we do decide to do something with them. I know people needed his Social Security # to buy them, so I am hoping they can be traced that way.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
