Upset over a Starbucks cup?

I have to tell my husband about this though. He thinks I'm weird because I will all other things being equal pick something based on the color (if all of brand headphones are the same prince and I order one I will pick Blue or Green over white every time) He doesn't get it and will literally just go with whatever one he happens to grab first.

Now I can at least tell him that I could be worse!

I have not seen anyone really up set by the cup. I think Starbucks came up with an ingenious way to get more free publicity!

If Christians are upset can you please have any one of them explain the "Christianity of snowflakes" that have been on previous years mugs. Free advertising plain and simple!

It's not actually about the color, but the lack of snowflakes. Idk...:confused3

I wonder if the same people go into Target and protest the streamlined, minimalist Christmas decor and the hot pink and lime green ornaments.

It's absurd. Really, the cup is red, green, and white- all traditional Christmas colors.

If there is a Christian out there that really gives a crap about the color of a cup of a secular business, then they really need to do some deep soul-searching into what their faith and belief is really about.

Now, when is a blue and white cup coming out? :scratchin

It's a tad immature to whine, moan and complain about a paper coffee cup. The season of snowflakes is upon us!!!

Well, there's the mall in New Jersey that made their Santa photo backdrop snow and ice and so many people protested they were forced to change it to a Christmas tree. The comments on the change.org petition mention that this a Christian country, how offensive this is to Christians and that mall santa photos are only for Christians anyway. So yes, they probably do protest at Target too.

You're starting a battle in the war on Christmas!

Add me in the camp of people that just doesn't get how this is offensive. They said previous year's cups featured imagery of snowflakes and ice skates. That has nothing to do with Christianity, at least I think hahha. I don't get the hullabaloo over the plain red cup?

You're starting a battle in the way on Christmas!
I thought the tree symbolism was pagan, not Christian. LOL!!!

  1. I saw this on Facebook. I agree with every word.

We loved Brady Cone's response to the Starbucks madness. He writes the following article: "In case you've had your head in the sand the last few days, there has been a huge controversy brewing, and blowing up all over social media. It's all related to this year's Christmas cups at Starbucks. If you're not a Starbucks regular, let me explain: Every year during the holidays, Starbucks uses special cups, which have always been red and adorned with some type of theme, such as snowflakes, ornaments, or trees. This year, their cups are plain red without such ornamentation. Why is this causing such a stir? Christians are claiming that the plain red cups are part of the "War on Christmas" and that Starbucks is denying Christ by not putting snowflakes on their cups.

    Here are my thoughts:

    1) It's petty stuff like this which makes Christians look so foolish. Freaking out about plain red cups does nothing to bring people to Jesus.

    2) Starbucks has made it known that they in no way celebrate Christ or anything Christian, so we can't expect them to celebrate Christmas.

    3) Symbols like trees, snowflakes and reindeer are not a representation of why us Christians celebrate Christmas.

    4) We have way larger problems to worry about in the world. World hunger. Terrorism. Genocide. Human Trafficking. Millions of people who don't know the name Jesus. Lets focus our time, energy, and anger on something that matters.

    5) A video going viral is suggesting that we need to tell the barista's at Starbucks that our name is "Merry Christmas", so that they are forced to write it on the cup. Not only is this obviously lying, and so childish, but does nothing to lead the barista closer to Christ. If anything, it hardens them to the Gospel because they see how foolish Christians are.

So in summary, lets focus on what God has called us to do: make disciples. And that might mean spending a Sunday evening sitting in a Starbucks, chatting with the Barista about life and faith, being polite and courteous to them to show them the love of Christ (which should probably include a generous tip)......all while sipping on a delicious peppermint hot chocolate from a plain red cup."
