I have been a member since 92 and I will say in those early years you could eat off the floor at the okw. Yes it was new but now I don't know if it is the help but there are so many cleaning issues in the rooms that sometimes I think I am in hotel 6. Does anyone else see this problem? Thanks

That hasn't been our experience. We've been members since 1995 and have always found OKW to be well maintained and clean.

We had our first stay as DVC owners in a studio at OKW in 2007 and I am in no hurry to go back. Our villa was gross. The carpet was threadbare, there were holes in the comforters, the freezer door was broken in the frig. and there was a thick layer of dust around the edge of the bullnose tiles in the bathroom. The stairs outside coming up to the unit had droppings from the trees all week and nobody ever swept them off. It was just not a good experience. To top off those issues the buses were HORRID (we literally waited 1 1/2 hrs one nite for a bus to MK) and we had about a 12 min. schlep up to the main pool. It was August so it was HOT and we were miserable & sweaty walking back to our villa from a trip to the pool. Instead of enjoying it we dreaded it. So I'm with ya on this one. It was just not a good first impression for us.

Just got back from a week long stay in a grand villa at OKW. The unit looked brand new. As a matter of fact, ALL of the items in the kitchen (pots, pans, dishes, etc) were new, as in we needed to take the wrapper off of the cutting board and cookie sheets before we used them. So I guess it depends on what unit you get, but ours was in perfect condition.

We also noticed how manicured all of the landscaping looked. And the pools looked like they were recently retiled. We commented on how for a 15 year old resort, it was in great condition.

Just wanted to remind folks that don't find things up to their standard that you should contact housekeeping while you are there so they can make it right.

Wow! I hope you complained to management about that one. Which villa was it? Management does listen to these complaints (at least they did at BCV). Last year, I was there and my studio was really "sad" looking. I ran into the head of engineering and complained to him. Actually, what I told him was "I just bought a used armoire from another resort on ebay and if it was in as bad condition as the one in my studio, I'd send it back." Coincidently, I got that same studio on my trip in October 2009. This time everything was in spanky clean condition.

I have stayed at OKW numerous times...and will do so again for a week at christmas....it is our favorite resort, and we have never had issues with cleanliness....is it like it was 10 years ago, but not far from!!

We had several issues with our Thanksgiving stay in a 2 BR. First, the sofa bed still had dirty linens on it, then there were NO bars of soap provided, then there were missing dishes (definitely not a full set of 8). We also found an almost empty bottle of liquor in one of the cabinets. We called housekeeping, and they provided us with a "full" cleaning the day after we checked in, which basically got us clean sheets for the sofabed. No bars of soap showed up until later on our trash and towel day. There was also only one packet of dishwasher detergent, and no hand dish soap was provided. I was more than a bit disappointed.

Cannot comment on housekeeping issues, but it was just announced during the DVC association meeting yesterday that OKW will have a major refurbishment in 2010 (inside and out).

We've been members since 94 and have had excellent experiences at OKW through the years. Some stays had a few, very minor housekeeping issues, but most have been very good to excellent. We were just there in October and our 1 bd was in great shape! I really wasn't fond of the location in bldg. 15, but the actual unit was just as good as ever!

YEAH! I'm a SSR owner but loved OKW so much that I added on another few points there. I've never had an issue with my stays but it could use a major refurbishment, so I'm glad that's happening.

As for cleanliness, all with the except of my recent stay at BLT (it was only opened for a few days), I've always had to do a minor cleaning to every villa I've stayed in. I bring Clorex wipes and wipe everything down, mainly to sanitize the place but never fails that I get A LOT of dirt from the tile floors and the shower floor. I always feel so much better, after I've wiped down the whole place. This is also true with most of the hotels I stay on vacation as well. It's not that Disney is doing such a poor job. I normally stay at 4 & 5 star hotels and find lots of dirt in them as well.

I've had very minor maintenance issues at most of the resorts in the last 15 months. At OKW this Summer the sofa bed was full of crumbs, the rest of the unit was clean.(Carpets, walls, showers, bedspreads, kitchen etc. all in really good condition) I'm glad to hear they are getting a big refurbishement, just as I was glad when BWV started theirs, many times I've felt that BWV was in really bad condition, much worse than anything encountered at OKW. Stayed at BWV this summer and I was glad to see things looking up in the mousekeeping dept.

OKW is still my favorite resort, even if I can't get in at the 4 1/2 month mark!

We're new DVC owners at BLT (mmm, love the new resort smell), but have stayed at OKW 3 times in the past, and again using our parents 2BR over Thanksgiving a waystation (we were stuck offsite, which pushed the purchase yesterday). Never had a bad experience, except 3years ago, when we were by the "back pool", and the bar/food stand was closed over the Thansgiving holiday.

(that and the cops visiting someone in the net building at 3 am)

Rooms otherwise were clean and neat.
