UPH Question

We have friends traveling with us that have a room only reservation for 8 days and 7 nights at POFQ. They were originally going to purchase a 7 day PHP tickets, but would not have a park ticket for their last day. Could they purchase 8 day UPH tickets even though they have a room only reservation?

If you are asking if they can get a UMP for 8 days with a room only reservation for 7 nights, the answer is yes. It would be considered a 7 day UMP which they'd be able to use from park opening on the day of check in until park closing on the day of check out. (technically 8 days in the parks) :) They can purchase these at check in, or before they officially check in if they want to hit the parks early.

I hope I got your question right. :)

If your friends are certain they want to get UPH passes, then they would be best off by purchasing them from Central Reservations in advance. This will save them around $30 vs. purchasing the passes when they arrive at WDW. They would be buying an 8-day/7-night pass, which on advance purchase is around $380 vs. $410 at check-in. These passes will be active on the day they check-in and will expire at midnight on the day they check-out.

Just be sure that your friends understand the differences in the available ticket media. The UPHs will run them $60+ more than 7-day PHPs, on which unused days/pluses never expire. If they really want the pay up for flexibility and/or they are definitely planning on doing some combination of theme parks/water parks/pleasure island/disney quest every day they are there, then the UPHs make a lot of sense.

Thanks for all the replies. I called CRO/WDTC for them. The CM said if they have a room only reservation, they cannot purchase a UPH pass by itself. He said the only way to get one is if it is combined with a package  Is that true?

with a 7 day PHP you have 4 plusses. why not 7 days in the parks and a waterpark day etc? DQ is another option that is popular. Adventurers club at PI etc.

They are planning all 8 days in a park. They are not going to do PI or water parks.

Then a UPH is a huge waste of money. Look at the annual pass or a combo of 5 and 3 day PH passes. or 7 day with one 1-day/1-park

A plus cannot be used for DQ.

UPH can be used for DQ.

That is not true.

Unless they changed the marketing of the ticket, it is for Disney resort guests.

Not Disney resort guests on a package.

That is another aggravating thing with Disney tickets. Youth Group PHP do get to go to DQ.

Johnnyr, over on Deb Willis's site, she has some great information on Disney tickets. Here is the direct link to the FAQ section http://www.allearsnet.com/pl/ticket.htm . If you check the navigation on the left hand side of the screen, she also has links for a cost analysis and complete comparison of all the ticket options and pricing.

An annual pass might be worth it for 8 days in the park if they can get an AP rate at Port Orleans!! I know the AP rate at the value resorts in the off season (January 05) is 49 a night. Its definately something to look into.

that may sound good until you see that the general public discount rate is $55.

Deluxes, the difference is about $10 between AP and Genral public discount rate.

Buying APs to get a Resort discount hasn't paid off in the last 2-3 years.:(

I'm surprised that they were told they couldn't advance purchase UPHs, perhaps they could try again. Combining PH passes will not save money over a UPH over this timeframe, however, the AP makes sense, particularly if they can't get the advance purchase rate. It looks like the resort purchase 8-day/7-night UPH and the AP rates are virtually identical, in which case they should get the AP as it contains a number of other potential discounts. Plus, even if they do not currently intend to return to WDW within the next year, you never know what might happen. We went last May with no intention of returning within a year and now we have a 2-week vacation planned for next March!!! In addition, we had some airline vouchers that we had to use, so DW took DS for an impromptu 3-day trip to Orlando. Suffice it to say, APs would have saved us a lot of money.

I just called back and got the same answer from another CM. The UPH cannot be purchased by iteslf. The CM did say that they can purchase an 8-Day Length of Stay pass ($370.00) which I assume is similar to the UPH ticket.

TammiMcMan - Thanks for the link!

Well, I always used the term "Ultimate Park Hopper" and "Length of Stay" pass interchangeably. I guess you need to figure out what the difference is. The $370 price (which probably doesn't include tax) is akin to the 8-day/7-night UPH advance purchase price listed on allearsnet.com. It is hard to believe that this is simply a terminology misunderstanding, so I would encourage you to call back yet again and ask for further clarification.

I think terminology DOES make a difference in the mind of the CM you spoke to.

I think what they meant is that if you purchase in advance, you won't be able to add or drop a day. (Length of stay)

Whereas they're thinking the Ultimate Park Hopper can add or drop a day, but if you want to do that, you have to purchase at check in.

I THINK that may be what they meant, because usually Ultimate Park Hopper and Length of Stay passes are pretty much interchangeable....

Ok. Let me see if I understand this correctly. The "UPH" and "Length of Stay" passes are the basically the same except for adding or dropping a day. From what CRO/WDTC is saying, you can't purchase the "UPH" without including it in a package deal. The say you CAN purchase the "Length of Stay" pass with having just a room only reservation, though. No problem, we can deal with that. We want the Length of Stay pass.

Now - If the "UPH" and "Length of Stay" pass are the same, why can you purchase the "UPH" in advance for $357.00, but can't purchase the "Length of Stay" pass in advance for the same price? They want $370.00 for the same ticket. Doesn't make sense.

Whew! That hurt my brain :p

Hey!

I didn't say it made sense! I was just trying to get into that CMs brain! :)

That is definitely NOT true. I did this in Sept. of this year with 3 rooms and 11 people. I had made the reservations room only in March and we decided sometime in May to go for the UPH and I just called and it was added on. Call again, try until you get a CM that knows what they are talking about. Good luck!
