Upgrading to a DSLR

I agree with the you have to play with it philosophy. I also agree that you need to look past the, I will get this for now then change if I do not like it. You will get attached to a brand, so look at where you may want to go with it.

I am a 30+ yr Nikon owner. As a brand it has never let me down. The lens that I have from my first camera fit on my current camera. I do not use them often, but they work today as they did 30 yrs ago. That is about as good a recommendation as I can give.

I just ordered a Pentax K200D and can't wait for it to arrive! It is supposed to be excellent in lower light situations. It is also extremely solidly built !! It uses AA batteries which are, obviously, readily available. It also can use a vertical grip which can double the battery life. And this grip has a second shutter release on it so you can use vertically in a natural position.
