First of all, major props to Cheshire Figment for the extremely thorough guide to tickets!! Wow! Very helpful and I learned alot of things I didn't know - which leads to this question. I have 6 day PH that I bought through UT before the price increase that I have not used yet. Since our trip has moved to a different time of year and is also longer, I would like to add the water park option. If I'm understanding correctly, the best thing to do would be to activate the ticket and then upgrade to add the water park option. This way I would not have to pay the difference between the discounted price I paid and the gate price, only the difference between the gate price for a 6day PH and a 6dayPH+WP. Is this correct?

If so, that's great news for us, since I assumed I'd have to pay the whole difference, but I can't believe Disney actually does that!

1 - Yes. Park Hoppers, got it.

2- Sounds great.

3- Yes. That means USE the ticket to actually go into a theme park.

4-That's how it works.

5- Believe it.

You will owe $22.00, plus tax, ($23.43) per ticket for the upgrade.

This alone has made me smile. Originally, we did 8 day hoppers, but no WP&M. I KNOW my son will start to badger me about visiting the water parks and I was mentally preparing my defense.:rotfl:

Now, I don't have to. The upgrade price is easier to handle. :thumbsup2

Does this same theory also hold for adding the "no expiration" option? Things have changed yet again. We jumped on the annual pass option for DVC members, so we no longer need to use the two 6 day PH tickets we got from UT for our trip this spring. However, my parents are joining us at WDW for a couple of days and then 14 days later will be joining my brother's family for a couple of days. Can they activate them with us, then add the no expiration option (paying $165 per ticket since they are 6 day tickets) and use the remaining days with my brother? (they won't be adding the water parks option)

Laurie

Adding no expire is an upgrade, just as adding WPF&M and/or days is an upgrade

Thanks for the quick response!!!! It seems like upgrading the 6 day PH to add no expiration would be a much better option than them purchasing 2 3-day PH. I just wanted to make sure that if they used the unused tickets we got from UT, we wouldn't lose the discounted value.

Just wanted to add this for anyone else reading this thread. If you do not use the the ticket first, the credit you get is not what you paid for the ticket but what UT paid for the ticket which is much less. Some people may not be able to use the ticket first and think I'm only losing $10 or so. Like in the following situation that I don't think I have seen in the sticky.

I know all about how Disney does not punish kids for growing up and will replace their child's ticket with an adult ticket for free but that's for a ticket that the child has already used.

If you buy a child's ticket from UT and then don't use it until the child is 10 or over you would only get credit for what UT brought it for when you tried to replace it with an adult ticket. There is no way to use the ticket first and bridge it since the now adult can't use ticket first.

This may be one of those things that probably doesn't happen too often but may be an issue when buying tickets for a future trip that may be postponed and you are buying children's tickets.

Correct.

Something that should be considered.

Hi,

I'd like to tag on to this thread, since I have a similar question. My daughter is going to WDW with her chorus to perform, and they will be getting a 3-day park hopper ticket. She will then be staying an extra two days with us (we're coming a day later). It sounds like we can upgrade the ticket to a 5-day PH, once she uses it at a Park. My question is: does she need to upgrade it on the first day that she uses it, or can she wait until we get there (her second day) and let me pay for the upgrade with my credit card :)

I can send her with the cash for the upgrade, but would rather do it when I'm there.

Thanks for all of your expertise!!!

1- I'll bet it will be a special "comp" ticket.

2- If it IS a "comp," no upgrades will be allowed.

3- If (IF) she CAN upgrade the ticket, it can be done at any time before the end of the day that
she has used the final asset.

It won't be a comp ticket and I'm certain its a YES ticket that can't be upgraded at all.

If it was a comp ticket it would still have some "value" since while it still has an expiration date, its usually a few years. A YES ticket has an expiration date of about a week and a half from the start of the trip. So crusoemom you can't even save it for a future short trip.

The only options are to buy another 2 day ticket or try to get a longer YES ticket for your daughter.

For a band trip I was the one ordering tickets and I could order any amount of tickets in any number of days, they didn't all need to be the same. All the tickets did not have to be the same length. The issue is if there is this flexibility. A lot of groups use a tour operator (I think a bad idea for small group raises the price*) and they may not give you any flexibility and only create one "package".

* but that's another thread.
