Upgrading regular ticket to gold pass

Exactly, so what I was wondering if the AP Renewal would count as a new higher priced ticket to which the expired tickets can be applied. Or if it would be considered an extension or another category where it might not be.

Pre- closure, we were allowed to apply the value of an unused ticket to an AP renewal. AFAIK, this hasn't changed. IIRC, there have even been recent reports of those who have done so.

Thank you

We are going the second week in October and I am getting antsy waiting for AP info, worrying about park reservations. Just our two 4 day trips that we have planned right now are more than the Gold pass so it makes sense, assuming everything stays roughly the same...
*Do I wait it out, hope sales start at the end of the month and there is still availability for our trip?
*Do I buy tickets now and try to upgrade to the pass?
*If I buy tickets somewhere other than the Disney website, will they still allow an upgrade or is it only if you bought tickets from Disney?
*Will I also need to buy photopass ahead of time or will they add it or do I hope that I can upgrade ahead of time over the phone?

Yes, you can buy tickets now, from Disney or from your favorite authorized ticket reseller, reserve your park reservations, and then apply the cost of the tickets you buy to the cost of the AP - it doesn't matter where you bought the tickets. However, you can only apply one ticket to one AP, so you can't buy tickets for two 4 day trips (two tickets per person) and apply the cost of two tickets to the cost of one AP for each person. And if one 4 day ticket costs more than one AP (LOL), you won't get a refund of the excess amount. However, you could save the second 4 day ticket and apply that to the renewal price next year.

I have also read more than once that people either received a refund or were able to apply the cost of the Memory Maker to the purchase of an AP, but I can't remember whether any of them were upgrading tickets or simply purchasing APs outright.

I can't answer your first question about whether you should buy tickets now or not, sorry!

Yes, we have another trip in Feb. I added up the price for the October trip and the February trip per person and compared it to the last known gold price and it is significantly more. And that doesn't even include the memory maker bonus. Not to mention the weeklong trip we took in June when we couldn't get an ap. 🙄

Thanks. I feel like I had read somewhere that you couldn't upgrade tickets from other sellers, so it is good to know.

I think you have to upgrade tickets from other sellers in person but can upgrade tickets bought from Disney online via MDE. I'm not sure if that applies to upgrading to an AP, though - since APs haven't been for sale, I've only read about upgrading (changing the number of days or adding hopping) or changing the dates on regular date-based tickets.
