Upgrading a WDW AP to the Premiere Pass?

Okay, I have the WDW AP bought at the renewal Florida Resident rate on monthly payments ($354, I think). It's good from 10/28/11 to 10/28/12. I'll be hitting SoCal mid-June. Does anyone know how much it would be to upgrade it to the Premiere pass, about?

Premier Passports are $749 (Guests age 3 and older), plus applicable sales tax. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/disney-premier-passport-ticket/

So basically you would pay the difference. Note: the AP expiration date stays the same even if you upgrade.
Last year in March 2011, I did a similar thing ... upgraded my DL Deluxe AP that expired 10/2011 to the Premier for about $400and the exp date stayed the same ... it was worth it because a WDW 9 day park hopper would have cost about the same and it allowed me to go to DL anytime I felt like it. Plus all the discounts and free parking!!!

The cost of the upgrade will the difference between what you paid for the WDW AP and $773.34 (the cost of the Premier AP, including tax). The cost of the upgrade will be due in full at the time of the upgrade. I saw that you're on the monthly payment plan, so it's not entirely clear to me if you will also need to pay that off at the time of the upgrade as well or if you can continue to make the monthly payments. You might want to check into that.

If you don't get any answer here, you might hop over to the WDW board and ask CheshireFigment about the monthly payment plan.

Also, it doesn't matter if you upgrade the pass at WDW or DLR. So if you're closer to WDW (and go there before heading to DLR), you might as well upgrade at WDW.

The monthly payment plan will stay in place.

Actually, I don't think the monthly payment plan will stay in place. I looked into it at DLR and they won't let you pay the monthly payment plan for a Premium AP ($499) and just pay the upgrade price for the Premier portion ($349).

A Premier pass itself doesn't give you the option to pay for it over time. Otherwise, people would buy the Premium (pay for it over time) and then, the next day upgrade the Premier.

Of course, if you find a nice cast member, maybe they will?!

I agree, no monthly payment on the Premier, and if you are paying monthly on an AP to uprgrade you have to pay the upgrade part in full, at once.

Thanks, everyone. I'll post in the WDW forum and see what comes back about the monthly payments. I know last time I checked, if I upgraded to a PAP I'd keep making payments and just pay the difference, but I'm not sure if it's different with Premiere.

Gah, it was right in the sticky:

"Once any level of AP has been purchased on the Monthly Payment Plan, if you wish to upgrade to any higher level of AP other than the DL/WDW Premier Pass you continue the payments on the MPP and pay the difference between the AP you are upgrading from and the AP you are upgrading to. For upgrading the Premier Pass only you must pay off the contract in full prior to doing the upgrade."

That's weird, it must have changed because I did this last year and only had to pay the upgrade in full, not pay off the portion that was on the payment plan. And I spread out the upgrade cost by first upgrading to a Premium WDW pass, and then a month later upgrading to the Premier Passport. Perhaps it's just different when you're starting with a WDW payment plan as I was.

Did you have a WDW AP and upgrade to premier in Disneyland? I'm wondering if that's why some have had to pay there's off and others haven't. Also I'm wondering if they'd make me pay off the DL payment plan if I upgrade to a premier pass at WDW???

I just purchased a Premium passport for Disneyland.

Okay, edited to change that. I just read my contract. It says that the difference between the cost of the AP and the Premier AP is due upon upgrade, payment schedule stays the same for the payment plan.

I was on the payment plan for the regular FL Res AP (full annual, not seasonal)...then I paid a chunk one month to upgrade it to the FL Res Premium AP (included water parks, DQ, etc.)...and then before my first trip to Cali I paid the other chunk to make it a Premium Passport. The monthly payment plan an its automatic payments never changed.

I did all of this at WDW so I don't know if that makes a difference...i.e. whether doing it at your "home park" where the original payment plan is in place makes a difference.

Sounds like it is the same at DLR.

And yes..."chunk" is an actual measureable amount of money.

I just got another bit of good news. I spoke to a AP CM on the phone, because I will be upgrading to Premier when I fly to FL in March 2013 (I'll be taking another trip in May to justify the expense of the upgrade) and had a couple of questions about that. She said that when this AP expires I will be able to downgrade back to the Premium AP and still qualify for the renewal discount. Yay! I plan on going to both parks enough this year to make the Premier pass the best financial option, but I probably won't make it back to Florida for a good long while after my trip in May of next year. My expiration date for the AP will be 21 May 2013, so I'll just make it!

I wonder if I can upgrade a DL PAP voucher in WDW? Or if I'll need to make a quick DL trip to activate it first.

Is it a renewal or a new AP? If it's not a renewal and you haven't already purchased and/or don't care about the payment plan I would just buy a WDW Premium pass when I got to WDW and then upgrade it to the Premier Passport next time I was at DLR. Would extend the expiration date out a little. Either way , whichever park you buy first, the Premium Passport always ends up costing the same.

I'll be doing as much as possible on the payment plan (ie the DL Premium), then I'll upgrade to the Premier.

I upgraded my WDW AP to the Premier last month at DL. It took quite some time to do so since they had to call WDW. Make sure you know how much you paid for your WDW AP, because they were going to give me credit for $200 less than what I paid. The CM said something about that being the current value of my AP. I waited over 30 minutes, but got the purchase price applied to the Premier.
