Upgrading 4 Day Park Hopper to Deluxe Annual Pass

Excuse me if this has been asked before, but I don't know quite how to search for what I want, to see if it has been previously discussed.

Here is my situation:

1. I went to Disneyland over the weekend and bought a 4 day Park Hopper for all my family, WITH MaxPass.

2. I did the 4 day park hopper rather than just get an annual pass, because ONE DAY of our visit was a Blockout Date for the standard Deluxe Pass.

3. On the 4th day, I converted all the passes to Annual Passes, with MaxPass.

4. It appears, from looking at my receipts, that they did not give us credit (around $60 per pass) for the MaxPass expense, to apply it to our new tickets.

5. Even more important, it looks to me that the amount of credit we received from each 4 day Park Hopper, to apply to the Annual Pass was the total amount MINUS about $100 per ticket, which appears to correlate with what a Park Hopper Pass would have cost for that Blockout Date.

So, does anyone know if it is Disney policy to NOT give you credit for any Blockout Days used, when you convert your tickets to Annual Passes? And do they truly also not give you credit for the MaxPass? Or did I just screw up by not being aware of what was going on, and point out that the money back seemed a bit low?

When I converted, my daughter and granddaughter were able to do it online, and it discussed nothing of these options, only gave some (apparently reduced) credit towards the Annual Pass. But then it appeared to happen also to my wife and I when we went to the ticket window. But I didn't notice it, because we were in a hurry, until my daughter pointed it out later.

Does anyone know about these things? Thanks.

At this point, I think you should call Guest Services and also the AP Hotline (number for that should be on the back of your pass). If both answers agree, fine. If both answers, differ, then call again, ask for a lead, and keep pursuing this until you get clarification. Have all your receipts handy to go over the math with the CM on the phone. As you learned this time, when doing anything at the ticket booths, it is best to stay alert and ask any and all questions there at the time. You can always ask for a lead to help, if necessary.

A couple thoughts on your points 4 and 5, that may help before you call:

4. There is some fine print on this page that confirms this. Since you said $60 Maxpass for 4-day hoppers, I'm guessing you purchased Maxpass ($15) each day after park entry, rather than buying it when purchasing tickets.

"No credit will be given towards any ticket upgrade for the amount of the Disney MaxPass feature purchased through the Disneyland app after park entry."

I haven't found a clear answer for myself if you get credit for Maxpass if you buy the add-on at the time of purchase. Hopefully someone can confirm definitively. But the fine print above seems to imply that it's possible. And this becomes important since 3rd party resellers are now able to add Maxpass at the time of purchase. The only way to add Maxpass previously was pay full freight direct from Disney.

5. The $100 difference rang a bell. I've seen some confusion on this on other threads. I'm guessing you had the "Promo" tickets which expire May 23rd. They were a great deal considering the current price of a 4-day Hopper. I would go back and confirm how much you paid per ticket. If you did buy the Promo tickets, they will not credit you the full cost of a current non-promo Parkhopper. If you did not buy the Promo ticket, then yes, something is wrong.

So... hopefully it's not as bad as you think. If you bought Promo tickets from a reseller, at a discount, that will hopefully offset some of the $60 lost on Maxpass. And, the $100 difference should be accounted for. Although if you were counting on that $100 "bridge" calculation in the decision to upgrade, that would be a bummer.

Either way, good luck and have a great AP year

When we upgraded our tickets to AP’s With Maxpass in April 2018 I did not get credit for what we spent on Maxpass. I was told that if I would’ve added Maxpass at the ticket booth then they would’ve given me the credit but because I bought it on the app I couldn’t receive the credit.

Sounds like the OP bought tickets through Disney with MaxPass included. I think that should have been credited.

When you buy thru Disney, it is $10 a day, add on is $15. Since he said "$60", I believe they added it on.
No, it was only 10$ a day for buying maxpass upfront with the promo tickets.
If you buy the “normal” priced tickets maxpass is 15$ as well no matter if you buy it with the ticket or later with your phone in the park...
At least that’s what I read online last time I checked...

All good points. We need OP to confirm.

The $100 credit difference says to me "Promo tickets".
And, IF true, the $15/day says "bought Maxpass at the Parks". If they bought tickets "With Maxpass", it should have been grandfathered at $10/day. Unless, maybe, they bought at the ticket booths and MP added on was at the new price? Could be.

Anyways. OP has receipts... so that will help.

It looks like things recently changed because just 2 weeks ago it was still $10 if you bought MaxPass with the ticket. Appears to have increase to $15....

Regardless, we need more info from the OP.

Thank you for this. I am taking 5 more family members to Disneyland next week and we will probably, once again, start with Park Hoppers for all of them, then convert to Annual Passes.
