We are renting points for next year and I am wondering if there is any chance that room upgrades happen when renting points, we will probably do std view at AKV but just wondering if they ever upgraded guests who rented points to savanah view? (I know not to expect it but just wondering if it ever happens)

Almost never unless Disney has a reason like a last minute room problem.

Thanks. I hear of it happening a lot from AKL rooms to savanah so wondering about dvc. Maybe I should start saving more for the view!

DVC is different than a hotel.

a hotel can upgrade a guest for a number of reasons - the hotel owns the rooms and can do what they want if they want to offer a guest more than they paid for.

a timeshare like DVC is owned by the DVC members, so it becomes a problem if you treat one owner better than other owners. upgrades virtually never happen unless there is a maintenance issue that makes it unavoidable. (also, some AKV standard view villas have a partial savanna view, so some have mistakenly concluded that they were upgraded).

Makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

You'll want to decide BEFORE you rent the points. Once the reservation is made, a rental can be very difficult to move around. The owner you rent from might not have more points available for you to upgrade. Or the rooms may book up (not too likely at VAKL with sufficient notice). Plan on your first reservation being your FINAL reservation and don't count on being able to change your mind.
