Hi me again, what are all these posts I read about, pin numbers and codes. Im not sure what that is all about. Thinking about upgrading and calling res. Will they have a pin number?? Or Code?? How come i have never received these?? HELP LOL

Some people get postcards or emails with discount codes.

Disney also gives codes for people with Annual Passes or Florida Resident Passes or whatever.

I honestly don't know if Disney will look them up for you or not. :confused3 The DIS has a page with discounts: http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts.html

Upgrades - I'm assuming you're talking the free ones. :) Upgrades are usually to a better view or to the Club Level. Just when and how the Disney people give them out is the subject of MUCH discussion around here.

Some people think that if you check in early or late, you're more likely to get them. Others think that if you ask real nice, you'll get one. On an on it goes.

I've received my fair share of upgrades and have received them at all different hours of checking in. I've never asked. I always book what I want - if I get a better view, that's nice - but when I really want a good view, I pay for it. :) I couldn't care less about getting bumped to club level and generally prefer not be there, anyway.

They bumped me to club level once and I said I'd rather not be there and they told me that was all they had - I'd have to go to another resort if I didn't take it. So, I get the feeling they *might* sometimes be "upgrading" people because they've nowhere else to put them.

So, that's my $.02 on that. :)

Pin numbers and codes are different things.

Pin numbers are attached to offers that are mailed/emailed to individuals. They are good only for the person who received the offer. Some people claim that you can call CRO and ask if there is a pin attached to your name ... I've never tried, so I can't speak to that. There is no explanation as to why some people get offers with pin codes and others don't. It seems that Disney sometimes targets certain geographical areas, demographics, etc. There is no rhyme or reason to it. We've been going for years, I'm on every mail list and email list available, and I've received one offer with a pin code ever. There are many folks who indicate they've never rec'd one. It's not something you can ask for or sign up for.

Codes are associated with the discounts that are released for specific groups. For instance, there are a number of deals going on Sept - Dec for annual pass holders, FL residents, Disney Visa cardholders, etc. Each discount has a code associated with it, usually three letters long. The DIS has a section on discounts that list these codes, and there are other sites with this info, as well. Keep in mind that there are often restrictions, black out dates, and limited availability. So it may be possible to get a discount at a hotel, but not necessarily your first choice resort or in a particular room/view category.

If you're thinking of upgrading by calling and choosing another hotel, I'd take a look at the discounts listed on the discounts section of this site (the prev. poster gave the link) and then call to inquire about the availability for any of the codes you qualify for (i.e. do you have an annual pass? a Disney Visa? etc.). There may be availability somewhere on property that you would prefer to stay. Keep in mind that limited availability may be a problem with a larger group.

Best of luck!
