OK, but the expense of you initially purchasing the season tickets, the taxes you paid, etc all get claimed as a business expense.

Same with DVC, although it gets more complicated with how to calculate those business expenses.

I agree that it's a hassle to deal with at tax time, but the rules for what you can write off as business expenses to counterbalance that income should mean you're only being taxed on profits.

I know there are ways to offset it, but it's stupid to have to go thru those extra steps. I don't really have a business and to have to add extra steps and work arounds is a pain. I'm not making money, I'm just breaking even.

Like our wrestling club. The head of the club used to accept venmo and something else as a way for parents to pay for tournaments. So you pay the club, then the club gives 1 check at the tournament for all the wrestlers from the club. It was super easy for parents to pay, and easy for the head of the club to account for it. But now they no longer do that bc of this whole tax thing. It just created an extra burden for things like that.

That is why I changed my Rakuten payout to a physical check instead of by paypal. I know that retailmenot doesn't have the option of a physical check, but any other portals that have that option it may be worth it to switch over to a check and avoid possibly getting it reported to the IRS.
