Best way to liquidate $250 virtua visa? Already used other two from 10% off deal through Sam’s but the order with this card was cancelled by Sam’s, took almost 2 weeks for refund to come through so won’t try that again. Not super worried about extra savings but want an easy way to get rid of this and if I can get some more discount it would be preferred but not necessary.

Load it to your PayPal account.
Use RetailMeNot and go to ShopDisney, preferably when they are offering 10% cash back, but they are usually good for 5%.
Order a $250 Disney Gift Card and pay with PayPal, using your VirtualVisa as the payment method (via PayPal)
You should get the credit from RetailMeNot and see it pending, but it is usually about 6 weeks before it is payable.

Unfortunately PayPal isn’t an option, ok to just pay directly with virtual visa? Or risk it will trip some fraud alert?

I used the VV at Kroger Online and bought Disney gc during 4x fuel.
Received two emails: one confirming the order had been placed and the second, confirming the order was accepted. :thumbsup2

Update: I received a third email on 7/08/21, the Disney GC's were shipped. There was no tracking # and they just arrived 7/15/21.
Rakuten is showing $7.68 x2 as I placed two orders.
With 4x fuel pts we're saving $70. Sweet!

This ^ is a real drag. Thanks for sharing though. Here are a few alternatives.

Virtual Visa's DP:
  • Use VV's online at:
    • Target just like a credit card
    • Kroger Online 7/03/21 :goodvibes FoxC63
    • Reload Amazon gift cards, buy Costco shop cards, Pay/prepaid utility bills

Whoa my mind is blown. How do you all keep up with this? I’m confused with cash back from the credit card, cash back with a cash back site , discounted gift card through the actual retailer lol.

booked my first cruise and would love to exercise some of this to alleviate the sticker shock but I don’t even know where to begin haha

Create Spreadsheets.
  • List CC (vertically).
    • Verify your cash back % / Miles and list them (horizontally): Gas/Grocery/etc.
      • This will give you a point of reference/perspective when and where to use your credit cards.
  • When it comes to Disney Gift Cards, create a spreadsheet for those purchases as well.
    • Date of Purchase/Payment Method/ Amount / CB Site/ Savings/ etc.
    • More tips can be found on Post #5
  • Sign up at cashback sites, use family/friends referral links to help them and get you started.
    • Monitor all of your purchases. If you notice one isn't tracking, contact the company.
I keep a record of all my purchases in store and online. I even list the original price, sale price, what I actually paid and how I paid for it. I include an image of the item and track shipping/received.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask questions, you're among a great group of people!

I've looked but not quite found it (and maybe it doesn't exist). Is there a good rule of thumb for how would be a wise amount to get (in gift cards). For example - I'm going to WDW in January '22 for about a week with 2 kids (9 and 5). I rented DVC points and I think (but will double-check) that I'll buy tickets not from Disney (I'm about to do the math to see). So, I'd be paying for food, souvenirs, and whatever Disney mouscellaneous comes up (if FP becomes a charged thing, or whatever). The transportation to/from the airport (whether shuttle or Uber/Lyft) won't count, nor would things like housekeeping gratuity).

So - what's a reasonable amount to have in GC? I do know that I can save them for later use/shopDisney, etc. I am traveling in Sept by myself - so I'll get a little feel for it (and I totally recognize that my own style of travel/spending is very different than with two kiddos who've never been).

(I ask all of this because right now my card is giving me 5% back on grocery store purchases, which includes Disney Gift Cards (and then I get extra fuel rewards when I buy gift cards and it's a nice moment to take advantage of).

It really depends on what you plan on spending using the gift cards:

- room
- tickets (if you are saving 5% on gift card it may be worth buying from an authorized ticket reseller instead for a bigger discount)
- meals (sit down vs counter service)
- souvenirs
- tours and other paid activities

There really isn't a rule of thumb because everyone is different. I tend to pick up DGCs throughout the year because I have DVC dues to pay and DGCs can be used for that purpose. What doesn't get used this year will definitely get used next year.

But for someone who might not visit again for a while, I don't recommend purchasing more than the minimum amount that you think you will need. And even then, only if you absolutely can afford to have that cash tied up in gift cards. Because those suckers are not refundable and you are not likely to recover what you spent on them should your trip get canceled or you need a quick influx of cash.

But for tickets, you gotta do the math. A 5% discount using DGCs on Disney's website might be a better deal than the third party ticket sellers. But only maybe. Sometimes the ticket sellers have sweet deals.

A discount on food is good but if you have a Disney Visa and use it at the point of sale, you can get a discount at select restaurants. Typically, that discount is 10% but doesn't include tax and tip. You have to do more math to see which is better.

Merchandise...again, the Disney Visa offers discounts at select locations but you have to make a minimum purchase (usually $50) and actually use the CC at the point of sale. The current discount is 10% but can sometimes go as high as 20%. If you tend to make small purchases here and there, the DGCs are a better option but for a big shop, the CC is better IF you're only getting a 5% discount on the DGCs. And again, the Visa discount comes off of the merchandise subtotal before tax. The DGC "discount" covers both the final total of merchandise and tax. More math...does your head hurt yet?

I think it can vary quite a bit from family to family, depending on your spending habits.

I have 2 kids of similar ages, plus DH. We usually budget $150-$200/day for food (including snacks), because we like table service and character meals. We might budget on the low end this coming trip, because we've done most character meals by now. So the type of meals and number of park days are things to consider when you budget (our park days are more snack heavy).

For souvenirs, I don't budget much ($50-$100 total), because we're not big shoppers. I agree that the Disney Visa is a better deal sometimes, but I never carry my wallet when we go to the park, so I prefer to charge it on my magic band and pay later with GC. For our coming trip, I will have to budget more for souvenirs, because my DD wants a droid and my DS wants a lightsaber. But that's something I can plan for ahead of time.

I tend to buy less in GC than what I think I'll need, because I can find other ways to save money if I run out of GC funds, but I'd have a harder time finding a way to spend money leftover. I don't like having money tied up, even if we go quite often.

Is that 15% off of 15% extra fuel points? Do you know if there's a way to convert these eGC to Disney GC?

Neither, you buy a $50 GC and get $57.50. It's a 15% bonus added to the gc's.
It's only 2x fuel points.
No way I'm aware of to turn them into Disney especially on the egifts. As far as Physical cards go, some Bed Bath & Beyond locations might work but it's very YMMV. And I can confirm shipping takes a while.

Harris Teeter - Coming Soon

I noticed Harris Teeter will be selling gift cards online, does any one have insight when this will come to fruition?

I agree 100% that you want to be careful and not stock up on gift cards for the future. In January 2017, there was an insane Amex offer for 20% back on up to a $1250 purchase at Sam's Club. With the Sam's Club discount on Disney gift cards, it ended up coming out to 27% off. I had the offer on 3 cards and bought $3750 worth of Disney gift cards. I figured we go every year so this will cover us for the next 2 or 3 years. Except we got sick one year and couldn't go. Now with Covid we didn't go last summer. I still have around $2,000 in Disney gift cards left. Sure we will eventually use them up but it probably would have been better off investing the money than tying it up in Disney gift cards for 5 years.

Another issue is that since Disney is getting rid of the magical express next year (and who knows if and when they will bring back fast pass), who knows if it will even be worth it to continue to stay at a Disney resort?
