ORIGNAL POST: Ok, this may be a silly question, but it has been on my mind.
Will an underwire bra set off the metal detectors and such at the airport?
(I told you it was a silly question-stop laughing! )


UPDATE: Ok, that was my original post. Yet after reading all of the responses, and taking the heat and humidity of Florida next week into consideration, maybe I should simply go braless?!

I've been wearing an underwire since I was 18 and never even thought of that. The answer is NO......

Nope and neither do my big silver hoop earrings. Shoes with metal stays will however and they will probably make you take your shoes off unless you can tell them for sure that they have no metal in the soles.

YES they will set them off (if the underwire is large enough)

It happened to my Sister in Law!

She has a very large chest, thus a very large bra. (She wears a DDD) She was mortified. Airport security made her remove all jewelry, shoes, etc. and patted her down. They actually felt for the underwire itself, and once it was concluded (by 2 people) that it was the underwire she was sent on her way! She was eighteen shades of red, though. She still talks about it! lol.

I am a C cup and didn't have a problem with my underwire going off, though.

Yes it will make the detectors go off. My office manager has had it happen twice to her. Once in the airport in Atlanta and the other in NYC. She now has bought a wireless bra just for travel and she is not a large chested woman either. A c cup at that. I guess it depends on the make of the bra. She was embarrassed as well as they had to check to be sure it was an underwire as well.

I fell yah....I'm nearing 40 with 2 kids of my own. That's were I got the "DD"s from in the first place.

I have never had the metal detectors go off for an underwire.....I am on the "larger" side too and it's never been a problem. I'll be flying to DW in a couple of weeks so I'll be sure to post when I return

It has never happened to me (36D).

In November, I thought for sure the metal detector would go off. It was my first trip since having a knee replacement. That still didn't set it off.
