UPDATED AUGUST 18! :-) "GIRLS ONLY" question

YES, they can set of the metal detectors. It has happened to me before. It doesn't happen at every metal detector, though. I guess it depends on how high of detection they have it on.

I have a not-so-old bra with underwires that escaped their casing so often that I finally pulled them out. I was wondering why I hadn't thrown it out yet. Looks like I just found a new use for it!

I have heard that they can set off the detector, ever since, I wear a sports bra in the airport. If asked to take it off, why not, who do you think would be more embarrassed? :Pinkbounc

Ok, while i've never had the actual metal detector go off on the bra, when I've been picked for random thorough checks, the hand detectors do make noises around the underwire area. If that happens, then YES, they will lightly pat in the area of the underwire (they always use a female) to make sure that is what it is!

Has nothing to do with size at that point cuz I'm an A :rotfl2:

some bras do, most won't esp. if they are new (2 yrs or youngr) as many underwires are plastic now

I think it depends on how the detectors are set for sensitivity. I'd be much more comfortable without an underwire while traveling, anyway. Just buy one with good support without underwires. You may enjoy it so much, you'll wear it the whole trip, and forget about the wires digging into you while on vacation. Let "those puppies" have a vacation, too!!

I wear an underwire, as well as have a tongue ring and a navel ring. I have NEVER set off a metal detector at the airport (3 post 9/11 Orlando and 4 post 9/11 MKE). I have been wanded other places (courthouse, jury duty), but never groped.

Well, do I hope or not? I'm an A cup... :earseek:
It'd be the first time I ever got any attention for THAT, maybe I'll go buy one for the trip :rotfl2:

'Course for the price of this trip, I could afford to get something to put the bra too :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I always wear an underwire, have to after nursing to keep them where they are supposed to be. :rotfl2:

I've never set one off yet. However, an embarrassing situation did just happen to me a month ago. Was carrying two large crystal bowls home in a carry on suitcase. For some reason they couldn't see "through it", so they needed to open my bag to see why. Well.....I had used my underwear to stuff against the side of the box to keep it a little safer. When the guy opened the bag 2 of my thong underwear fell on the floor. He told me not to touch anything. I ignored him. There were too many people walking next to me and I wasn't about to leave my thong underwear on the floor for everyone to see and step over. UGH. I'll never do that again. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Again, I must say, I am happy I started this thread! Too funny! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
So what's the appeal of a thong, anyway?! :rolleyes1

Well, :rolleyes1 I thought I would never wear them...but when I would work out my underwear would go up my butt. I would constantly pull them out and thinking how stupid I looked picking my butt at the gym. A friend said she wore them at the gym for that reason, so I tried it. It actually worked and I never have underwear lines when I wear pants either. Guess you have to try it. :Pinkbounc

What's the appeal of a thong?

w/ clothes:
no visible panty lines! (vpl's)

w/o:
looks sexier than big ol' cotton bloomers

Last year at JFK the metal detector kept going off, I kept going thru the machine and removing stuff, the line got really long and finally the security guy ask me if I had an underwire bra, and I said yes, out of the sudden the security guy yelled to another one "Get the female guard we have another bra issue here..." I did not know where to put my face  When I saw the security guard I almost fainted I kept looking at"her" just trying to make sure that It was really a "her" she did put her hand inside to make sure it was the wire which was unconfortable to me, I felt weird until I saw another female going thru the same thing.
Linnette :earsgirl:

Mine never have (36B) but my sister (D cup) routinely gets pulled over for setting the metal detector off due to her underwire!

ORIGNAL POST: Ok, this may be a silly question, but it has been on my mind. :rotfl:
Will an underwire bra set off the metal detectors and such at the airport?
(I told you it was a silly question-stop laughing! :rotfl2: )

UPDATE: Ok, that was my original post. Yet after reading all of the responses, and taking the heat and humidity of Florida next week into consideration, maybe I should simply go braless?!
:rotfl:

Only 4 days now! :moped: :moped: :moped:

Is anybody with me on this one?! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc (And, yes, for you clever ladies out there: I did choose the pink "bounce" "bounce" smilies for a reason!) :rotfl:

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Same deal here. Have been stopped nearly every time I fly out of BOS and MCO because of underwires. One trip I took just my DS, age 14 and niece, 14, on a cruise and a short Disney stay. Caused quite a commotion leaving BOS at security and when we were leaving MCO I got stopped again when my son decides to say very loudly "For God's Sakes, it's just her bra, hehe". Aren't teenagers so much fun :rotfl2: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
