Thank you all who gave support and prayed for my mom's heart surgery today. They did the cath yesterday and she only had 15-20% blockage, less than they expected, and the valve wasn't as bad as it originally looked. She could have put it off but she figured she was already psyched and if she put it off long she has risk the of stroke. She has no fear of death, but doesn't want to be a drawn out burden while here.
Today's surgery went well and she's coming out of it soon (the anesthesia) so I'll be going in a bit to say hi. A week in ICU and then a very long and difficult recovery, but hopefully she will come back healthier then she's been in years.
Unfortunately, my dad went for an overdue dr. appt yesterday also. His severe hip pain that has him stumbling and out of breath is highly likely an extension of previous cancer, even though blood levels are good. If I understand it correctly, they can do radiation which will help the pain, but chemo gets into the quality vs. quantity of life issue. All of the siblings and spouses are meeting tomorrow to discuss where we go from here to care for them. My dad is 81 and still self employed because of poor life choices with stocks thus no retirement or pension plan. Wouldn't it be wonderful if my mom regained enough strenth to be able to care for my dad again since their roles have been reversed for several years now.
Thanks again for giving me a place to share my sorrows this week.
