Update: Kylo Ren is Coming, but When?

I wonder how the VISA Meet and Greet will work once Kylo Ren starts appearing.

The backdrops remain the same. Kylo replaces Vader for the regular meet and the Visa meet.

It appears the backdrops were built with Kylo in mind rather than Vader. For whatever reason, probably Lucasfilm's directives, they didn't bring out Kylo early before TFA premiered.

Not a big fan of Kylo Ren. Shame they are removing Vader. I hope they don't take away the heart and soul of what Star Wars is with all of these expansions. I wasn't a fan of the new movie so it'll be interesting to see where they go with it.

I wonder how the VISA Meet and Greet will work once Kylo Ren starts appearing.

We did the Visa Meet & Greet this weekend at Disneyland. As we checked in, we were told that we would meet a character from the Dark Side but weren't told who it was.

We all thought it was cool to meet Kylo Ren but was a somewhat bizarre experience. Not at all like the other photography experiences in the parks. Kylo Ren was, as to be expected, completely in character. No hugs or handshakes or anything like that. He was very intense the whole time. The weird/uncomfortable part was that the photographers and other cast members in the room were the same way. No smiles and they didn’t tell us where to stand, how to pose, or anything. So most of our pictures look a bit awkward, as we didn’t really know what to do.

One of our friends in our group asked another cast member about it and they said that all of the cast members in the room during the Meet & Greet photo session were supposed to be “in character” too. But, it didn’t really come across that way. It just came across as disinterested.

Definitely the least fun photo experience I’ve had at DLR.

Looking at the big picture, I've never understood the facination with villains. And looking at the more narrow picture, I am absolutely mystified over the "love" for the guy who killed Han Solo. They intentionally made him a simpering, cowardly piece of you-know-what who is impossible to like. For the life of me I cannot imagine a child wanting to meet a mass-murderer who wipes out entire villages without an ounce of remorse nor can I comprehend the reasoning behind "family entertainment" leader Disney pushing a meet and greet of such an evil character. I mean, a little bit of comedic evil can be amusing (see Cruella d'Ville), especially when their master plan gets foiled before they do any real harm. But Kylo Ren is an over-the-top murderer who killed one of cinema's most beloved heros. I just have to scratch my head on this one. A glass of wine with dinner brings out all the outrage of people who want to keep the parks good and pure. But a meet and greet with a murderous scoundrel with a black heart is something that people want their kids to line up for. I really don't get the attraction.

Anakin/Darth Vader wiped out all of the Younglings yet parents and kids line up well before rope drop to be onstage with Vader in Jedi Training.

It's all in the marketing of the characters and the products.

That falls under the "bigger picture" that I was referring to, which is to say that I've never understood the facination with villains generally. I guess one difference that I see, (small as it may be), is that by the time Disney introduced Darth Vader into the parks, he was already dead and roasted whereas Kylo Ren is still an "active" murderer. I suppose it not his mere presence that gnaws at me as much as it is comments like the ones in this thread saying that "I love Kylo Ren." What's to love? Moreover, he's not supposed to be loved or loveable.

The villains in Star Wars have always had the coolest look, the coolest weapons, and that aura of total power. I knew Vader was bad, my girls know Vader and Kylo Ren are bad guys, but they see red lightsaber, cool mask, cool voice. They like Rey too, but she doesn't have a crossguard lightsaber.

Not a Kylo fan, so glad I got to meet Vader.....last week and hopefully again this week
And also met him at DL in Dec.

Just checked the character meet and greet times at DHS Sunday, and Vader has no schedule. Last day appears to be Saturday. Kylo on Sunday, my day at DHS...please???

No, you're definitely not the only one. My family is disappointed and DS8 is devastated. I wish I had never told him he would get to meet Vader. I thought it was safe to tell him since the launch bay was new. My family is huge into meet and greets so it has been a depressing few weeks with all the announcements of characters that are leaving. Other than a one day MK visit last summer this is our first trip to the other parks so we have never met any of the characters that they are taking away. But the news about Darth Vader has been the biggest blow yet. :(

OH NO, I am SO disappointed that Vader won't be there, when we go!!! I could cry. My kid is gonna cry. This stinks!!!!

This swapping out Darth Vader for Kylo Ren infuriates me. Darth Vader is the icon of Star Wars. It's like taking Mickey away from the Magic Kingdom. So damn stupid. PLEASE bring him back. Praying when we're there in August there will be more Star Wars meet & greets. It drives me nuts there's no R2D2, C3PO or any of the other classic characters. They had Luke, Leia etc during SW Weekends...so why not have them here while we are all waiting on the new land??

Maybe they'll see how much abuse Kylo Ren will be facing and they'll take him out ha ha. I'm going to have a few choice words for that guy. heehee.

I think it is completely stupid to replace Vader for Kylo. I could understand adding him and mixing it up with Vader, but to just dump Vader is crazy.

In the movie, Kylo had his mask off just as much as on..... so it seems to serves no purpose other than to be a poseur wanna be Vader. I think most people who saw the movie would associate Kylo more with his face than mask (or maybe identify him with "Matt")... Vader needed the mask, Kylo doesn't. And for 3 movies, you had no idea what Vader really was under it. They lost all that mystery with Kylo in the first hour. His character is not as interesting and not a good replacement for Vader.

I'm thrilled to get to meet Kylo Ren. But, we've met Darth Vadar several times. I do wish they'd put both of them out. No reason not to really. None at all.

I think you are really overthinking this and putting a lot more impact on these characters than they should have. Fictional characters and all that
