My sister, even though they decided to stay in Old Key West, instead of the cabins, decided she HAD to check out FW just the same. They went over for dinner the other night. She called me this evening (it's about time!:earseek: ) and said it looked like a ghost town!! Hardly any campers at all and she was heartbroken when they passed by the loop the cabin they last stayed in was located. The loop was closed off and there were many trees down, laying on the roofs to the cabins!! She also said they were either repairing or replacing the roof to Settlement Depot.

Good luck to all those staying there in the near future. ::yes:: Hopefully, this won't play out in the near future:

"Mother Nature, you have just finished ravaging the state of Florida THREE times, what are you going to do next?"

"I'm going to Disney World!!"

 :crazy2: :faint: :headache: :scared:

Thanks for the report.
I think the roof repair is regular maintenance.
This is a very slow time of year at the fort anyway and we have been there without the storms and it was a ghost town then also. Especially on Sunday nights when the locals have gone home from their weekend trips. It will pick up a lot in the next few weeks.

We're here at FW right now, and now it actually isn't too bad. We got here last Friday and leave tomorrow, and while you definitely see signs of where trees are down and where trees once used to be that have already been cleaned out, we were relieved that the damage wasn't as bad as it could have been. Occupancy was very low when we got here Fri., seemed almost full over the weekend, and even through the rest of the week has been pretty high. (Maybe half full or more). The first day we were here they had only been reopened for a day and a half, and there was small debris in the yard area in front of our comfort station, so we just went ahead picked it up. As the week has gone on the maintenance crews and outside landscaping contractors have worked steadily to continue straightening things up. I told DH that FW was battered, but not destroyed!
