Update...DVC statement that VGC expected to sell out this summer

Finally... I'm surprised it took this long but those points requirements are killer... phew

DVC may be close to selling out the Grand Californian Villas, but there will always be points to be found on the resale market. :)

Ummm....Our guide told us that when we bought! Before it opened. Could be true. Could be another year.... popcorn::

LOL..very true!! But why do I feel the need to add on again? :)

One person is reporting VGC June UY is very close to sold out.

Darn, I have a June use year and I am hoping to add on when I'm at Disneyland next week. Because of where I live I can't purchase from Disney unless I'm on site so there's nothing I can do until then.

It looks like I may have to work with separate contracts if June points are now really gone? I was hoping to keep things simple.

I need a few more... but then who doesn't, right? :rotfl:

Guess it's time to call my guide again.

Thats funny considering they were giving their biggest discount on VGC points at the Chicago event. That made me think they were having trouble selling them.

Do you know what is the doorway incentive?
Just curious. Thanks.

Glad we decided to buy our add-on points at VGC at the Friday night Doorway to Dreams event for our June UY - sounds like we were fairly close to losing out!

Does that mean that the current models will be converted to the Hawaiian resort very soon?? Looking forward to that! ;)

My guess is they are trying to sell out the remaining points by this summer so they can redo the models and switch to Hawaii. As I understand Hawaii models are set to open in Japan this summer....sales to follow...?

I'm happy with the amount of points we have. Congrats to those new and existing owners who snatch up what's left! :goodvibes

I spoke to a DVC rep at our resort yesterday for about 15 minutes...funny how much I LOVE to talk about DVC :lmao:

Anyway, he asked me where I own and I told him BLT & GCV, he told me (disclaimer inserted here that this is talk from a DVC booking guide..take it as you will) that GCV was 80% sold out and he thought a complete sell out was possible by Fall.

We bought our points last summer when they had the, what I like to call, GCV fire sale. Which were the lowest price per point I have seen. My guide told me they were a bit concerned about the sale of GCV and they offered deep discounts for a short period of time to "test the GCV waters."

The rep at our resort yesterday also thought they were doing a "test the waters" type deal @ GCV. He compared it to them "testing" AKL by adding the small number of rooms @ Jambo to see the response...then Kidani. He also thought that they might consider chaning one of the DL hotel towers into DVC if GCV was popular. While it made sense, (and clearly just a thought, not any type of insider information), I don't think it's very plausible. With the length of time GCV has taken to sold a mere 50 units, I can't imagine doing anything else in CA for awhile at least.

Anyway, just thought I'd share an interesting conversation on the subject. Reader's Digest version of this post is...the DVC rep said GCV was also winding down and nearing sell out :goodvibes

The GVC is sold out from now until Sept. from what I have heard and read. The DLH is undergoing a huge refurb, all new plumbing and wiring. They have just announced the new names for the 3 towers, and themeing. A new waterslide is to be built, a cosmetic change to the pool, and another new pool. Rumors here are the same about one tower being refurbed into a DVC, however most believe a separate new tower will be built.
Most believe it was the economy, and not the product that slowed sales at VGC. I do think we will hear of another DVC at DLR to be built, sooner, rather than later. Probably during the sale of Aulani villas.

I don't think it is possible to refurb any of the exisiting 3 DLH towers into DVC unit. Those building are almost 50 years old!! Even with the ongoing refurb project, they ARE old buildings!!! if they sell them as DVC villas, then they can't touch them for another 50 years.... that'll be like 100 years old!! I read that they were considering rebuilding them before they decided to save money and refurb. The only possible way it would works is to build a new tower and have some rooms be DVC units.

I read about the changes at DLH..they sound great and I'm sure I'll be staying there to check it out one day...using DVC points there would be even better..if I wasn't such a cheapskate about the yearly MF I'd be seriously tempted to add on AGAIN..

Friends of ours used points to stay at DLH as VGC is totally booked, and got one of the refurb rooms, and LOVED it.
