Upcoming trip dillemma and ?

At 11 months we reserved OKW 2 br for Nov 27 - Dec 4. Last night I was informed that my family is planning a 100th bday party for my grandmother. As i dont want to be the only "heel" to miss this special day for her I feel we really should attend.

My dillemma is if we now drive in order to attend her party we would probably be arriving to check in either very late on Nov 27 or very early on Nov 28. If I call to change our check in to Nov 28 and our check out for Dec 5 will MS cancel our current ressie to check availabilty? I have checked the availability board and it appears that Dec 5 at OKW is all booked. In the dozens of trips since 1995 we have never had to cahnge dates our room size so I'm not sure how it works.

They won't cancel your reservation. Just call and ask about availability on the 5th, don't mention canceling anything until you get availability, then if it is available tell them you want to cancel the 27th and add the 5th.

Just keep your reservation as it is. If you arrive after midnight on the 28th, you already have your reservation for arrival on the 27th which is good until at least 6AM on the 28th. Let them know you will be arriving late.

As Tisbit said changing days on the front or back of a reservation does not require a cancelling and rebooking of the whole stay. If the 5th is available they will book that and can cancel the 27th. Good luck in getting that day!

Make a backup ressie for the 5th a couple of hours on the way home...Parks aren't open very late that time of the year.....stay at WDW as long as you want an start the drive home....just my two cents worth!

Thanks to everyone for the comments. We changed our check in date to Nov 28th and check out for Dec 5th. Being we probably wouldn't arrive until around 2 or 3 am we just decided to stay a little longer and visit with my grandmother for the 27th, sleep for a few hours and begin our drive around 1 am that way we could arrive at OKW around 11 am check in and head out to the parks if our room isn't ready.
