One of the days for my DS's school is camouflage day, as wear your camo items to school.

This strikes me as -- strange. I think it's tied to the fact we're doing a fundraiser for our troops, which is great. But we will have to skip this day, as we don't even OWN any camouflage.

Does your school do this?

No, but I kinda of shocked they haven't.

Yes but they call it military day.
BUT then again we live on a military base and all the kids that go to the school are military brats:)

we have it every year. In years past, I just picked dd up a camo t-shirt at WalMart for $5.

This year, they did combo days so the students had a choice. So it was camo/tacky day. More kids participated that way and I would say it was about half and half of who dressed in camo and who dressed up for tacky day.

Just walking around Target, Camo is big- and not just desert or woodland. Pink, purple, blue.
I wouldn't expect anyone to come in full fatigues, but what about a camo hat? or t-shirt? or even shoelaces?

I wish!

OMG, my DS would be in heaven!

OP...an old T-Shirt and some spray paint is all that is needed...get some leaves, lay them on the T, spray paint away, remove leaves..instant camo. Digital Duct tape is popular too...tape a little on wherever for $4 a roll.

My kids have had camo day during spirit week. One of my kids had a class t-shirt with a camo pattern with class of 20.. on it.:thumbsup2

Yep...our HS does it too. But I am in Wisconsin, so hunting is huge here. Everybody has camo here..lol, whether it's "military" camo, hunting camo, pink camo, bright orange ( not really camo, but hunting colors), etc...

When DD18 was in HS, her varsity volleyball team even wore camo spandex for one of it's non-conference matches. They ordered them from an online volleyball store. :rotfl:

It's very typical for the kids here to wear it during non-school spirit days too.

I bought ds10 an old camo army uniform from Goodwill for Halloween, and he still wears the jacket all the time, and the pants occasionally (they're too big, but I know he will wear them as he grows).

No but its a great idea! We picked our days when we were seniors, toga, beach day, hippie day I dont remember the rest... camo day would have been easy and fun!

Even if you go to a military surplus store you may find some bud's for cheap.

There have been spirit weeks with Camouflage as one of the days yes. Camo stuff is super super easy to find..be it in shorts/pants, t-shirts..etc. I see lots of them at Target, Kohls, JC Penney, Walmart..etc.

I don't think it's strange at all. Camo stuff is everywhere, and not expensive. My kids both have some (even my DD) and wouldn't have any issue wearing it for this sort of event.

As someone else suggested, you can make your own with some leftover spray paint and an old tshirt

I think it's a really cute idea since it's tied to supporting our troops!

OP, there have been many spirit days along the way that we had to buy something for. IMHO, I'd rather run out and spend a few bucks than make my kid feel left out. At that age, joining in on those kinds of days is so much fun for the kids. Why make him miss out when it's so easy and cheap to participate in this one?

Some of the day themes for homecoming week: 80's wear and hair day, superhero day, where's waldo day, movie hero day were some of the fun days the kids had.

This year they had cross-dressing day.

Camo day would be fun.

Sounds fun! I think it would be a different one than our usual pajama day, school colors day, 80s days, 90s day, etc.

I think a fun theme would be cowboys & aliens.

I too thought hunting, and was like 'who in the heck has camo, nevermind kids?!' The military thing didn't even occur to me until I opened the thread. That strikes me as entirely inappropriate, though I don't really think most people I know could participate if they wanted to without going shopping goodness knows where, heh.

We had a random colour tshirt day, on which one was supposed to wear a t-shirt of that colour. Obnoxiously, ours was orange. Because who doesn't have an orange t-shirt, which are so easy to come by.

There is a picture of spirit week in my old high school yearbook - it was camo day and that was in 1980

I've always wanted an excuse to wear a gilly(sp?) suit!:lmao:
