Upcoming flight cancellations

I have a flight booked from Newark to Orlando on Friday morning for our Saturday Treasure cruise. And now we are very nervous our flight will be cancelled due to the 10% cancellations that the FAA announced this afternoon. Even if we make it to MCO without a problem Friday, I think these cancellations might create major problems for DCL and the other cruise lines. Because they might have to delay ships leaving on time to wait for passengers that booked their flights through DCL.

This administration won’t do anything until the damage is done. Expect tons of Disney visits to get scrapped altogether… and lots of tantrums.

I feel you, we fly on Monday for our cruise on Tuesday on the Dream.

I'd take an extra day and drive if at all possible. It wouldn't be ideal, but it's definitely doable. If you do fly & get there, book a rental car for the return trip ... most will hold a car with no credit card / no cancellation, and that way you'd have it if you need it. We've needed rental cars to get home due to lengthy flight delays / cancellations - and that wasn't even during shutdowns and flight reductions.

Can you move flight up a day? drive? I'm guessing the first isn't an option because of the cancellations.

If people want to discuss the travel problems you should probably make it nonpolitical or the thread will be shut down....I think.

I don't think they delay the ships due to cancelled flights or weather problems. They most likely will just issue a refund if they booked through DCL. I'm guessing, but I bet it's a very small percentage of people that book flights through DCL.

I don't believe they HAVE to delay ships even if booking flights through DCL. I also wonder how many actually book flights through DCL.

Actually all it says is this-

"Assistance from Disney Cruise Line with flight arrangements to meet the ship in the first available port of call if unable to make your cruise due to day-of-travel airline-related flight delays or cancellations

Day-of-travel flight monitoring and assistance from Disney Cruise Line in case of any airline-related flight delays or cancellations"

They aren't going to hold ships beyond a certain point but they would fly those few impacted passengers to met the ship.

Knowing your air passenger rights is also important too… Canada, UK and Schengen countries especially…

Do they have that still? It has been reported that all that was axed here lately through the current administration.
(at least for us here in the US)

Unfortunately they only apply to things that the airlines control. Scheduling, crew availability etc. if the FAA shuts down airspace there is nothing an airline can do to change it.

It doesn't pertain to things out of the airlines control and it never has.

The affected include Newark (EWR), JFK, LaGuardia (LGA), Los Angeles (LAX), Atlanta (ATL), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Miami (MIA), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (IAH, HOU) and Washington DC area (DCA, IAD, BWI).

San Francisco (SFO), Boston (BOS), Seattle (SEA), Denver (DEN), Orlando (MCO) and Salt Lake City (SLC) were also noted in the FAA alert.

I thought it was going to be 40 cities, but it doesn't really matter because flights cancelled coming into a city means flights cancelled going out of a city.

And those are most of the big hubs, anyway, so anyone with a layover going through one of those cities is also affected. And then airplanes and crew will be in the wrong place, so that will delay or cancel more flights. It's a big cascade of bad times. This is a big problem.

Slight correction, its EU / EEA not just Schengen. Any flight on any airline which originates from or is going to any EU / EEA country is covered by the EU Regulation 261/2004. It covers all passengers on the plane regardless of nationality or citizenship.

https://www.citizensinformation.ie/...pensation-for-overbooked-and-delayed-flights/

If a transatlantic flight is cancelled, automatically entitled to €600 / $600 per passenger
The airline must pay for hotel accommodation
The airline must rebook at no extra cost for next available flight
