upcharge on gift card for dining

Not sure if that is what is called but does anyone know how much over the price of the meal they run through on a gift card? Is it 20% to cover the tip? I know how much my character meal is going to cost and was getting a gift card to cover the expense, but I need to know if I should get just the price of meal or should I get the card for atleast 20% more? I will have more than 6 people so there will be a mandatory 18% added to the meal as it is so I was going to include that in my original gift card purchase.

I have been in restaurants before where you hand over your card to pay for the meal and they run through more than the meal to cover whatever tip they think you might pay.

example the meal is 281.00 + 18% gratuity = 332.00 -should get the gift card for 332.00 or more to cover the upcharge. Or do they not run anything through until you sign the ticket.

Typically, when the gratuity is mandatory, that will be run through at the same time as the charge for the meal. It would be noted on the original receipt as well.

So, get the gift card for $332.

I have never had them run anything more than the price of the meal. I add the tip and sign it after they run the card, I make a note on my receipt how much I tipped so I know the remaining balance.
( this is for restaurants that do not add a tip ahead like some do for large parties.) if the tip is added ahead, you will pay the total with the gc. It is also possible to use more than one form of payment, I will tell them to run the GC as a partial payment and then put the remaining on my Credit card.

I asked this on a Facebook page and was told that they only run the card for the bill amount. I am hoping that is true.

I used gift cards exclusively last trip. They ran it for the amount on the bill (two of us so no auto gratuity). Then I was able to add the tip on the line and they took the exact tip amount off the card after. They never put holds on my gift card - that's usually only done in gas stations.

Or once when they didn't run the bill properly and I wasn't able to tip them so they charged me a $1 on the gift card so I could add a tip. Hmmm...wait a second - this might have been at a non-Disney restaurant where I was also using a gift card.

Each trip, we pay for several meals with our Disney Rewards Card, and it works the same way. Except when we use the TiW card and the gratuity is automatically added in.
