Specialty beef from Japan. Hand massaged cows and all that to make the beef extra tender.
ardon my ignorance but what the heck is Wagyu beef?
Huh. Not a peep. Verrrrrry interesting.Where's the nickel & dime police???? Is that the sound of silence I hear???? Hmmmmm....
Pardon my ignorance but what the heck is Wagyu beef?
Honestly; We love the second seating for precisely that reason; the Dine and Play. My son is always on the look out for when the walk through the Dining room collecting kids. My husband and I always have a drink then.
I am very concerned if DCL is going to start a Nickle Dime policy for food. It is a major reason we Love them. Went on NCL and it drove us insane. I sincerely hope it doesn't go any farther if that's the case.
Yes I can confirm first hand that there was food for a price on the dream in 687. We started to order some for an appetizer before dinner but they said it would take 45 minutes to an hour to get to us. We said nope
OK so as always I'm a little slow to the party.
So my questions are: Was the typical "Free bar food" still available?
Or was the "Free Bar Food" totally replaced by appetizers at a cost?
Or maybe a combination of both?
I apologize if this has been answered & I just missed it (no flames please)....
First off this was before dinner around 4:30 or maybe 5 and there was no free bar food. I have not seen any during this time before
However, we did see free bar food setup late one night after 10 between the bars.
Hope this helps
I totally agree. Anything premium like that should carry an upcharge. It's appropriate. So is upcharge offerings of premium ice cream products, candy, etc. etc. These things appropriately carry an upcharge. Now, other cruise lines have offered upcharge options in addition to included items for quite some time. But, in conversation in other threads/topics when other cruise lines are discussed there are some who throw around phrases like "nickel & dime" referring to the climate of upcharge offerings. It's often used as an argument or point of contention if you will that some won't consider other lines because Disney doesn't participate in that practice. Some say paying the Disney premium is worthwhile to avoid that climate. Well, here we are. It's actually quite interesting that Disney is taking steps, one after another, in just that direction. "Nickel & dime" arguments are totally losing their footing with Mickey. It is the industry standard and, yes, Disney continues to move in that direction.TinkerChelle, I put a link in my Post #22 to look up Wagyu beef. If it's the real deal it is SUPER pricey. Any business offering such luxury food items would have to up charge somewhere to cover the extravagant costs.
Exactly. I love choices. They make it possible for us to cruise cheaply right now when we have (many) little kids. On other cruise lines we don't pay for late-night child care unless we choose to use it, to cite just one example. In point of fact, every person on a DCL cruise is paying to keep the clubs open until midnight. And we don't pay for soda on other cruise lines, either. I like not paying for soda we don't drink. Options are good! And you're right that DCL's perceived value as the line that "doesn't nickel and dime" (oh, and that has a generous carry-on alcohol policy) is eroding. We see it clearly, but there are some who seem to think there are lines DCL won't cross. I disagree. I think it's clear that DCL will cross whatever line its customers will let them. What's next? I'm interested to see.I totally agree. Anything premium like that should carry an upcharge. It's appropriate. Don't take that statement as I'm personally taking issue with the upcharge offerings. I'm always a cheerleader for options. More options = more choice. I've sailed 3 cruise lines and not once have I had my arm twisted or felt I *had* to spend extra. I enjoy having more options available to me. Most definitely!
Ultimately, yay for more choices! I'm down with this!
Make no mistake, Disney is moving towards industry standards. Not a terrible thing. But, it's definitely something to keep in mind when looking at vacation options, considering cruise lines, ships, & itineraries.
Totally not a jab at Disney. There will always be a special spot in my heart for all things Walt Disney. <3
That's our big worry for the drydock, too. I love the decor & vibe of Cadillac Lounge. We do hope to see it stay. We are booked on the first post-drydock. See ya there?Us too, Sweetpee! We were usually there right when it opened to get our choice of seats. Not that there's a bad seat in the place!
It's such a lovely place to just relax and watch the beautiful sea go by. We really enjoyed the pianist this trip too, he was Canadian and his first name was Tim. And bartender Miraslav was so entertaining! All around it was probably our favorite hangout on board! I just hope that they do NOT change it much at all with the big dry dock next year!
