What IS the first sailing after the Wonder's dry dock, Sweetpee? Sure sounds like fun! But we have a Hawaii trip next year so sailing later in next year is probably just a "wish upon a star".

Interesting Forbes article but it was 3 years old. What I have found is that the very high end restaurants that do have Wagyu also tout exactly WHERE that beef is from, ie., Snake River Ranch, etc.

We went to O'Gills a few times last summer on the Magic while the early dinner seething was going on -we had the late seating. They did have free snacks available - chips and salsa, carrots / celery and dip - that sort of stuff. It really wasn't very exciting. I'm not sure if I would want to pay for a snack right before dinner, but I wouldn't mind having the "option" to. Especially if it was more upscale than the free stuff they offer now. Hopefully they will continue to offer the free bites they do now, but also offer the choice of something better if you are willing to pay for it. I don't see a problem with that, but I guess others will disagree .

Sweetpea, I agree with you (as usual) i also would pay for wagyu beef as well. But just one point of clarification, is paying for wagyu considered "nickel & diming"?

Even on other lines, what some describe as a nickel & dime experience, I never feel that way. There's tons of inclusive options. The extra spending is always a choice. So for me the answer to your question would be no.

Since there is still so little regulation regarding what exactly wagyu even is, I agree with the author that cattle producers in the US would be better off not labeling their beef wagyu. (He mentions this in at least one of the articles.) Kobe isn't necessarily the highest regarded beef in Japan; and there are certainly very good domestic producers in the US.

Absolutely! I have more than one family member that was or is a cattle rancher here in the U.S. The only Wagyu I have ever had was U.S. grown. The Wagyu I recently had in Seattle at a high end restaurant was insanely marbled. Chef showed it to us pre-cooking. I've seen a lot of gorgeous Prime beef but it was crazy! And so rich I was happy my serving was very small as part of a multi-course dinner.

I agree that no one should just pony up big bucks for "Kobe" or "Wagyu" without asking some good questions and making sure that they are buying from a highly regarded establishment.

I don't think this is "nickel and diming" unless they take away the free options. I don't consider Palo and Remy a Nickel and Dime situation because it is an alternate venue to eat (free food is still offered in the MDR). If the additional fee is worth it to you, then you do it. Otherwise lunch and dinner are still served elsewhere.

But if they take away the current free snacks in the bars and only have "for fee" options, then I might change my mind.

Me too. Unfortunately DCL's base price is moving further and further away from reasonable. Therefore, I'd rather feel that almost everything is included. Because if the upscale food is an option, I will want to purchase it (ie. We never miss Palo...)

This still makes me laugh...especially after seeing the menu posted on Twitter. The ala carte pricing is quite high. Where is our resident "list maker"? You know, the one who doesn't hesitate to list all of the perceived negative changes made by the "other" cruise lines.

Those prices seem like land prices. I mean, the menu looks great, and I don't mind paying a small up charge on a cruise but I wouldn't pay any of those prices for a snack.
