I was surprised by a tidbit in this Disney Parks Blog post: 11 Insider Tips for Disney Cruise Line Dining

It says:

We forget that you can skip the dining rooms and nosh in Pub 687 on Deck 4 on the Disney Dream. Watch the game and indulge in Wagyu beef sliders, tempura shrimp, bangers and mash for a nominal charge.

(emphasis added by me)

This is the first time that I heard that they were selling special food in one of the bars on any DCL ship. Has this been around for long? I am surprised that I have never heard anyone mention this.

Since the blog post is not based on first hand experience, it will interesting to hear from recent cruisers if this is true. Have those items been complimentary in the past or are they something new that is being added along with a surcharge? Hopefully someone will clarify soon before this thread blows up... :duck:

All I know is the District (the bar/lounge area on the Dream) has a central location with late night snacks (hot dogs, wings, veggies, salsa, chips, etc) available every night. Don't know about extra pay food.

They were just setting up when I took this, so no food yet.

wagyu is significantly more expensive, but this still surprises me. I don't know why they'd offer something so special in the bar if it was going to be an uncharge.

Something in the works, perhaps? I know a couple of years ago they were toying with exclusive dining in the cabanas. But I have yet to see that come about.

Did you read the blog post? The writer said they had a recent cruise on the Disney Dream. That's not first hand experience?

Wagyu beef in as bar food??? That's wild. Hmmm, can't always believe everything you read online or in a blog…. I will be very surprised if this ends up being true.

Yes, I did read it but she never said she experienced all of these tips. She said she was impressed with the food stations at Cabanas and the BLT from room service so i assumed she had tried those. The use of stock photos also left me with the impression not all of these tips were personal experiences.

The blog is an official blog, run by the Walt Disney Company. I don't mind if the writer has been in the cruise ship. Why would they make up something so precise if they did not have the information from the company itself?

And yet she gets at least one thing wrong. The kid club counselors do NOT come into the dining room, so yes, the parents will need to take the younger kids out to meet them. She says you never have to leave your table. But depending on age and independence, yes, you might.

Also, seemingly endless food stations at Cabanas? Hmm. Only if you walk around in a circle and don't notice you've seen the same food twice.

If I cared about beef, shrimp, and sausage, I would ask the question on the blog itself, personally.

For second seating, the kids club counselors DO come in the dining rooms. They wait inside the lobby in the front of the restaurant. Easy to see them and watch your kids walk up to them. The first night I choose to get up and take my 5 yo to them, but the remainder of the cruise my little one did just fine on her own. I don't really find anything wrong with this statement.

I was on the September 12 Eastern Caribbean Fantasy sailing and was also surprised to see food items on the menus at both O'Gills and Meridian. I don't remember exactly what the items were but I think they were in the price range of $5-15 depending on the item.

Thanks for reporting back! So, this seems to be new indeed. And not only on the Dream, but the Fantasy, too.

Yes for second seating the counselors will come collect children to head back to the kids clubs, it is called Dine and Play and you let the host and your server know your kids will be participating. You kids have to be registered with the kids clubs of cours.
