Up in the Middle of the Night

The Vibe doesn't close until 2 AM, and believe me, my kids stay until 2 AM. So there will be some teenagers walking around at that time. I know that there are also some crew patrolling around during that time at least.

Not my own experience but family members (drinking coffee day and night).

As for myself, I did not drink much coffee (not a fan) but have been drinking colas and noticed most sleepless nights happened when I drank a cola before noon.
You should stop drinking colas, they are bad for you and they contain a lot of caffeine.

I'm working on it. Now I drink more pop and iced tea than cola. Still not good for me but it's a process.

Its not a real thing. We are in NASCAR Country. He said that jokingly as we talked. He said 3 miles a day, every day, for 5 months will be almost 500 miles. He said if I do that, I should easily lose 5 LBs per month if not more. I have only been doing it for 3 weeks now and not every day. Weather, pinched nerve, and pain have been impacting. He said it is normal and I will slowly get more accustomed to it. It takes about an hour to walk 3.5 miles now. As my body gets use to it, it will slowly climb. He said you start to notice small things at first, long before any size changes. Sleeping better is first, followed by lower resting heart rate, being happier, and wanting to eat less garbage food. I have only eaten fast food 2 times in the last 2 months from eating it 4-5 times a week, sometimes multiple times a day.

I for one will say good for you getting in shape. I got a personal trainer back in October 2015 to get more in shape and I can tell you the more I lost weight the more I am happy, wanting to eat less good stuff and it doesn't take too long to notice small changes when you work at it

When I first started reading the thread I was going to say welcome to menopause :flower3: but it sounds like a lot of us wake up at the crack of stupid for all sorts of reasons.

Being a middle of the night ship wanderer I do wish they did have something for the middle of the night, keep a movie on deck playing or maybe Cove stays open for coffee, drinks or snacks. My job entails a 24 hour duty shift where I can be up the full 24 hours, lay down and nap at night and get up in 10 minutes, half hour, hour, or several hours, depending on what is happening out in the real world. Having done this for 33 years I tend not to sleep through a night although I do sleep on the ships much better than on land. Since I don't want to turn on the TV or lights to disturb everyone in the room I often get up and aimlessly wonder the ship. I do get to study the décor, the hidden gems and watch the hard working night crew keeping the ship in her glorious shape. After getting an iced tea I may find a comfortable place to sit and work on cataloging pictures from the day.

DD(adult) on a family cruise could not sleep and just stayed awake up on deck all night. The crew did not bother her, she just relaxed, enjoyed the night while listening to the waves, and rocking of the ship.

I like wandering the ship taking lots of pictures with no people in them. There are plenty of places to sit and relax (or even fall asleep... I have encountered more than one person sleeping on a lounger...).

One neat thing to do is sit on a lounger on deck 4 and watch the sun slowly rise and the ship come alive... the early risers doing their run, then more and more :-)

Others have noted satellite falls as a great area to watch the sun come up. My only caution for that location is it can be rather windy especially on a sea day, so be prepared for that. But the view and pictures are stunning.

Early hours is also a great time to do laundry. I set a timer on my phone for when the machine says it will be over and go wander then come back and rescue the laundry.

We have actually gotten up early, gotten the laundry in the machine, run up and grabbed breakfast and come back and put them in the dryer. [BE AWARE, if you don't get back on time and are even a minute late, there are people who will just take all your clothes and throw them on the table and sometimes on the floor! We've had it happen -- and we were literally within one minute of the machine stopping. They wait like vultures LOL]

Do all these middle of the night insomniac ship wanderers do it in PJs or do people actually get fully dressed?

MY PJs when traveling (well, and often at home) are comfy lounge pants and a loose tshirt. For a straight laundry run on ship I have been known to just wear PJs. If I am wandering the ship though, I change into clothes, which while they may resemble PJs, are not for sleeping in.

There is nothing like perusing the decks pre dawn in your tux.

Talk about reaction. Priceless.

Everyone questions if they missed a formal party.

Only formal wear for us predawn. :duck:

To each their own. ;)
