Up, down and all around...a trip we will NEVER forget - COMPLETE 1/19

I was thinking if I can manage to get one to replace Daniel's lost one, I will set it up around the tree so it is going when we return home after Christmas. Unfortunately Disneyshopping.com does not have it (I was really hoping to use the 25% off plus the 15% Visa Discount!). I'll figure something out, maybe e-bay

I can finally say it - Welcome Home Neighbour!!!!!!!!. There is just something about AKL that hypnotizes you into buying DVC - Dad and I were staying there in April of this year and went on a DVC tour "just to see what it is like" (although we had spoken about it on our previous trip) and ended up signing before we left.

I really wanted to add-on when BLT opened up but in the current economic climate we are having to be sensible and hold off.

First of all, I am so sorry to hear your grandma is having problems. She is in my prayers. Not the same situation, but my grandma has been having a really hard time as well. She lost her husband/my grandpa of over 60 years in July. My grandparents were very close. I worry about her all the time.

Welcome home!!!!! It is such a wonderful feeling to know of all the wonderful vacations you will be taking! We plan on taking our first trip home to AKV in October. We are taking my family this time. I can't wait!

:yay:

You will have to check out the tour-just to see the models and all. It really is interesting! You can use your points at places all over, not just Disney too....so who knows, it might be a better deal for you than you might think! :goodvibes

I also have been meaning to say, I got your PM, I just haven't responded yet since we aren't completely solid on our touring plans. But, we should have them nailed down soon.

I will keep the tour in mind - I would just feel a bit guilty to take up someone's time when I am convinced that I will not buy. Using the points for other vacations sounds like a good plan, too, so perhaps at some point it might actually make sense for me, just not right now.

About the PM, don't worry, I understand that your mind is occupied with other things than trip planning at the moment. :goodvibes I hope your grandma is getting better! :flower3:

I am loving your TR!!! Your son is so adorable!!! I can't wait for our first family trip in April. I was showing some of your pics to my boys and DS3 would get really close to the computer and pretend to eat the food pics :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Can't wait to read the rest of the TR

Congratulations on your ownership! What a dream come true!!!

Yeah for DVC!! :cheer2: We actually almost signed on last month and decided to get some stuff paid off first instead. We are pretty sure we are going to look into it again, it just makes sense with all of the options you get with it. Congrats again!

Do you think you could pm me the phone number that you called to order the chocolate truffle box at the WL, this will be a great surprise for my husbands birthday.

Congratulations Brookelizabeth! It must have felt so good to say YES to DVC! :woohoo:

That is very exciting news for you! We did the tour, but with Jill knowing there would be a new baby on the way in 2009, they just couldn't make the final decision. If they decide to have just two kids, I'm sure they'll look into DVC in the future, though. For now, we'll enjoy pictures from all of you guys and just be happy with our values. Those AK rooms were awesome, I will agree. It would be very nice to stay in a place like that, but it would make it harder to leave the room!

And to know that zebra domes were always right there, just steps away....that would be an incredibly delicious perk!

If I remember correctly, they were still selling SSR when you went on it, right? I was thinking if that was available, we probably would have bought there because it might have been cheaper, but I'm secretly (or not so secretly) THRILLED we will be at AKV. I hope they sell the ZDs in Kidiani too!

My DD7 decided shes getting a zebra ... and DD10 wants an ostrich!! Since part of our dues goes toward animal food/care... I don't feel bad at all about "claiming" one as my own.

we bought 250pts. Which I figured out can stretch into 17nights in a studio:scared1: So I'm using 4 nights in Feb... and 9 in July. I'll have 46pts left over... that I'm considering using for F&W:rolleyes1 but don't tell my DH yet... he's gonna flip That's all just Developer Points!!

We are going in Nov over TG... with my Mom and Bro and his family. I'm using my AKV points to get a 2 BR Savanna room for all of us Its 9 nites, so I have to borrow like 132 points from 2010... but its my brother's family's first trip and I wanna pull out the stops!! I'm so happy DVC will enable me to do that!! I added up all my stays for 2009 (including the potential F&W one) and my lodging with taxes (rack rate) would have been over $13,000!!!!

Yay DVC!!

Paula

We bought at 200 points, it was our limit, but 50 extra points would make it so much more flexiable. Just something for the future I guess.

You totally own a zebra, ostrich, giraffe...as per my contract we own 0.5%! :rotfl:

That is AWESOME about extending the Developer Points through the whole year!!! We are doing the 1 bedroom for 7 nights and switching to a Studio for our last night....just blowin' 'em all at once! (more on all that coming up soon) We are looking forward to the 1 bedroom since Henry goes to bed so much earlier than we prefer. But when he gets older a Studio might be an excellent way to extend the vacation/fit in a solo trip for me! I would just solo trip...:cloud9:

That is so great about saving $13,000!!!! Wow! I haven't looked into the rack rates yet, but I think I just might do that out of curiosity.

Congratulations! The pics are amazing- and I love living vicariously through your becoming DVC members!

Thank you!! It's still pretty hard for me to fully believe we are members!

Hi Brook! I am hoping that your grandmother is getting closure on what is happening, I'm glad she has such a loving family to support her.
So you have done it!?? You are now official DVC members! That is awesome! We have stayed in the BWV but aren't members. There is always a folder with all of the DVC stuff in it in our room. We have looked at it but haven't done anything about it.... maybe I need to dig those papers back out! AKL looks so amazing, we had dinner at Boma and we're blown away by it. Thanks for all of your pictures!

Thank you for your kind words about my Grandma. I haven't heard anything new recently - so I suspect things are in a bit of a standstill with it all. Hopefully no more bad news will pop up about it all.

YEP! We are DVC members! Joe reallyyyyyyy wants to stay at BWV sometime in the near future, he just loves that resort, and I've heard so many great things about it too.

I am staying strong! :goodvibes

Do you know what my thought this morning was concerning DVC? "Everyone else is getting it!" :rotfl:

:rotfl2: That's hilarious! Come on, join us!!!!! :goodvibes

:cool1: Congrats on DVC!! I'm so jealous!!!!!

I'm working on DH! I think he sees the benefits but he can't get past the monthly cost. He told me he'd like to pay it in full up front. We'll see!

I so wish we could have paid in full up front. We didn't like taking on another debt, but very soon we will be out of debt shy of a student loan and the house (which is on the market!). The interest rate on DVC is higher than the student loan, so we are going to work on paying DVC off first. Then I'm sure as soon as it's gone, we'll be tacking on another contract.

Was this in regards to the monorail toy? I sure hope you are able to find one!!

I totally agree with you! That AKV just sucks ya right in! (I swear it's the master bath! ;))

I want to add BLT sometime as well, just a small contract, but we are holding off until the we pay off AKV, and the economy balances out too. And I would LOVE to buy into the Hawaii resort as well!

First of all, I am so sorry to hear your grandma is having problems. She is in my prayers. Not the same situation, but my grandma has been having a really hard time as well. She lost her husband/my grandpa of over 60 years in July. My grandparents were very close. I worry about her all the time.

:yay:

Thank you for ther prayers for my Grandma. I am so sorry to hear about yours going through hardtimes as well-I will keep her in my prayers.

That is so great about taking your family with you to AKV! I hope to make it to AKV in 2009 as well...but I am not certain on it all yet (more details on that coming soon!)

YAY! I knew it! :rotfl:

Think you'll finish this TR before you have to start your next one?!

I hope I do-it's my goal. I only have the end of this day, MK, Epcot and the travels home. So...well...if I have a couple other marathon posting days I should be able to wrap it up in time.

:flower3:

Ah, I understand about not wanting to waste someone's time - I am that same way. I wouldn't have ever taken it either if we weren't really serious about it. It's a good thing for a future trip sometime!

Christmas (and family matters) lately has been taking up all my time - this upcoming trip is very, VERY un-planned!

That's so funny about your DS3! :rotfl: I love it! I am glad to provide a good "meal". :goodvibes This is your first trip to WDW? Your kids are gonna FLIP! It's so wonderful! Be prepared to be hooked. ;)

Thank you for the compliments on Henry as well!

Congratulations on your ownership! What a dream come true!!!

Ya, we didn't hardly even see the Dream Team, but this really is a Dream!

Yeah for DVC!! :cheer2: We actually almost signed on last month and decided to get some stuff paid off first instead. We are pretty sure we are going to look into it again, it just makes sense with all of the options you get with it. Congrats again!

We love all the options - we are dreaming of future trips all the time. There are so many places I want to see, and this will enable and encourage us to take those trips.

Congrats on the DVC! Love your TR!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Do you think you could pm me the phone number that you called to order the chocolate truffle box at the WL, this will be a great surprise for my husbands birthday.

I will see if I have it in my notes somewhere-I'm sure I do, it's just a matter of finding it! They also have a couple other choices aside from the chocolate box that I will PM you about.

Congratulations Brookelizabeth! It must have felt so good to say YES to DVC! :woohoo:

It felt GREAT! I was practically exploding when our Rep came back in the room.

When I left you we had just gotten back to our WL room and were reading every DVC item we had in that lovely bag and we started to share our DVC dreams as Henry napped.

Now I want to share my dreams with you!

When Joe and I first looked into/discussed DVC we knew we wanted to buy. The wee little I knew about it was enough to make it sold in our dreams. We wanted to buy DVC for one main purpose: To give our friends and family trips to the happiest place on earth.

We have several close friends and family members that in no way, shape or form could afford a WDW vacation without some major discount, or saving for years and years.

By us purchasing this property we now have a MUCH lower room cost each year (if you count maintenance), which enables us to take people with us more often! :woohoo: :dance3:

The biggest Dream of mine is to take my sister and her two boys. My sister is a single Mom of 2 high needs boys. The younger needing more than the older, but the older being actually more difficult. (If that makes ANY sense ). Her ex-husband walked out on her when she was about three weeks pregnant with the younger boy. While his doing this freed her from a mentally abusive marriage, it also put her in a very difficult spot. She had very little education, being that she quit college to marry and have children. She had never had a job beyond entry level, so she had very little experience-plus she was in the midst of a high risk pregnancy.

Long story short, she has had a ROUGH past 5 years. Very rough. She is trying to go to school and making ends meet with the pennies she gets for child support from her (insert choice words here) ex-husband. I find it very difficult not to be bitter at him, not only for walking out on her 5 years ago, but for the anctics he continues to this day.

She, above anyone else I know, deserves a giant break in life. I want to take her on a real vacation. I want her to relax and enjoy and watch her kids run and laugh. I want her to be able to spin in a teacup until she is so dizzy she can't walk straight. I want her to rock with Aerosmith. I want her to experience the pure joy that Disney World is!

We are SO EXCITED to know that we will be able to take them sometime in the future!!!!! We need to save, save, save for this particular Dream Trip because we will be buying everything for all of us-so it will be awhile before we can set the plans into motion, but to think that DVC is making us one step closer to doing this!

Our hope is to take people along with us every other year or so and just let their rooms costs be on us! Or if we can't go a certain year, to just give it away to someone!

It makes me SO EXCITED TO DO THIS!!! I can't wait!

Our current "Dream Plan" is to do SSR in January 2009 on Developer Points. Then a 2 bedroom Savannah view in September 2009 with friends and their 2 young kids.

However, they just told us they don't think it will be possible this year-they need to delay until next year. :guilty:

That brings Joe and I to a decision point.

Do we just bank the points into 2010?

or...

Do we take another family trip in late 2009? Then with the friends in 2010?

If we do both trips in 2009 we'll be doing APs. Something all new to me!

If we bank, we'll have a boatload of points in 2010, so we could either do two trips or bank whatever is left over and keep carrying points over until we have enough for something really fantastic-like a cruise or a Grand Villa (for a whole bunch of family!).

I'm really torn.

OF COURSE, I want to go back in 2009!! And I want to stay in AKV before September 2010!

But...thinking future wise, it might be smarter to bank...

But...but...but...:confused3

I don't know what to do. And neither does Joe.

I think what I do need to do is figure out how many we will be banking, and then add up the banked points for the next few years to see what they add up to. Then I can determine if it will be worth it.

There, I think I made a decision while writing my TR! :rotfl2:

So...what would YOU do? I need advice and fresh perspectives please!

Up next: We love Mickey, oh yes we do!

Congrats on your DVC purchase! Please tell us all about it....I'm curious to know more about it myself. (what you get, what benefits there are to ownership, pricing, etc.) Thanks!

So...what would YOU do? I need advice and fresh perspectives please!

Just bear in mind that

  1. Developer points cannot be banked so you have 12 months to "use 'em or lose 'em"
  2. You can only bank points into the next year, you can't just keep rolling them over

Since you will have to go in 2009 anyway to use your Developer Points you could stay at AKV on cash (using your DVC member discount to get 25% off rack rates) for a couple of nights just to "get your fix" and then bank your Use Year points into 2010 for the trip with your friends. That's what Dad and I are doing in April next year - I found that, although we only had enough Developer Points for a week at SSR, if I made the trip longer I could use mileage points with the airline to get the flight cheaper, which paid for the cost of another week at SSR using cash, and being from the UK I could get a 14 day ticket for the same price as a 7 day meaning there was no cost increase there either.

I would love to know more about it also. If only I could talk DH into going on a DVC tour.

Was this in regards to the monorail toy? I sure hope you are able to find one!!

That was a quote from me, not posted as a quote and not from me. It was wierd!

Anyways, I did call Disney Merchandise as directed from another kind reader and one is on the way. Unfortunately, I waited too long and they can't guarantee christmas delivery but I took the chance. (I'm too cheap to pay the express delivery charge :scared1: ) I figure our tree will be up until new years so if it comes a couple days late, I will put it under the tree with a note that it had gotten lost in the bottom of the sleigh. He's 4, he'll buy that :santa:

I'm so jealous of your DVC purchase. I would love to do that but I am sure that unless I win the lottery, my non-Disney loving hubby would never go for it. I'm afraid I can be of no help to your question but best of luck in making your decision.

I about teared up at the story of your sister. what a sweet and wonderful thing to want to do for her! Her (insert choice of words here) ex-husband may have been an **** but she is very lucky to have you.

...what would YOU do? I need advice and fresh perspectives please!

I would take another family trip in Sept 2009. This is simply because if I new I had the points I wouldnt be able to resist using them, its like some kind of disney urge that I can never get ride of, but Im not complaining I LOVE DISNEY! :goodvibes

Something you might consider is getting studios for everyone. We did that for my in-law (got 3 studios) and will be doing that for my family. It saves a lot of points. We don't own a lot of points and want to get as much use out of them as possible. My dream is to go twice a year. The only way to do this is to stay in studios (and some standard views). Each family has there own space that way too. It is just a thought. I know I would want to get that annual pass.

Also, we drive to save money, but I know that is not for everyone. If we flew we would only be able to go once a year. Good luck in whatever decision you make! :)
