My husband is a very proud Scotsman and is thinking of taking his kilt to WDW. He loves wearing it, and only really gets the chance at weddings and Scotland football (soccer) games. It’s a big thing to pack, but he could always wear it on the plane home if we run out of luggage space.

I think it’s a great idea, as it looks brilliant (and that’s coming from an English girl!) and he really gets a kick out of wearing it. We’ve got ADRs for the Californian Grill so he’ll defiantly wear it then, and probably at a couple of other evening meals.

Is this a good idea do you think? We’ll need to pack the sporran, socks and kilt pin – although I think we’d better leave the skian dhu (wee dagger tucked inside the sock) behind!

Comments please?

I think it's a great idea. I'm sure he already understands that some American kids (and maybe an adult or two) may ask why that man is wearing a skirt, but it's a rare parent who wouldn't know enough to explain a kilt to their child. As long as he's ok with that, then go for it, especially if he's got good legs. :) :) :)

I know a guy who wears a Utilikilt to WDW on every trip.

He gets a few stares, but it's also a great conversation starter.

WillCAD - What is a Utilikilt?

wdwoldtimer - don't be cheeky! No, he carries the essential Scottish accessory in his sporan - a wee dram of....vodka (neither of us like whisky after one too many bad experiences on the stuff!!)

WDW is an international destination and they are receptive to all manners of dress that do not infringe upon safety or local laws.

As an American, I think it would be great fun to see traditional Scottish dress in the parks! I'm betting he'll get lots of smiles, a few giggles, and probably a child or two asking questions. All in good fun!

Yes, and yes again! I wish I were there to see it. :)

PS: Be careful when you visit Epcot....he may be recruited into a certain band over by Canada. :sunny:

PPS: You're right...leave the dagger behind. :rolleyes1

Oh bring it!!! Although I am Canadian I am proud of my Scottish ancestry and have my family's kilt. My dh plays the pipes and is in a military pipe band. My kids have been raised loving the music and the dress. My son has his own kilt and sporran and play set of pipes for when he marches in a parade with his Dad. We love listening to Off Kilter in Canada at Epcot . If he wears it to Epcot he may be mistaken for a member of the band! We found the neatest plush while at the UK pavilion a few weeks ago - a Pluto wearing a kilt and playing bagpipes - of course we bought it.
While you might get a few looks from people who don't get it, who cares and I say go for it! You might even get a little extra attention from characters and cast members. Definitely leave the skian dhu though, it will never get through airport security. I'd make sure that the kilt pin is not a valuable one - I have heard of tiny needlepoint scissors getting taken, so I would not be surprised if a kilt pin was taken.
Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for all your positive responses - he is going to bring it along.....and as he pointed out, we won't need to bring so much underwear as he is a true Scotsman!

Woo HOO!!! Now I REALLY wish I could be there to see it!

Would he put a wee word in my (British) husband's ear? I'd love it if he'd wear a kilt some time (inculding the dagger, methinks!).
