That was nice of you. It will be nice to have you DBF back for awhile. Hopefully she will stay away for a long time now.

I am really close to my brothers. One more than the other. We just have more in common. But not kissy, kissy close. But we do buddy around together. Although we dont ever exclude Jeff or his girfriend Hopefully she will get over this phase and your Dbf will realize when she is gone that she does need some help to heal from what sounds like a seriously terrible marriage.

I think our most commonly quoted movie is Monster's Inc. Anytime a kid wanders out of their room (if they should be sleeping) one of us (or both together) will say "put that thing back where it came from or so help me"

Yeah - that sounds dangerous!!! I have to get ready anyways...the corporate business manager (basically an employee of corporate who is in charge of doing full inspections) is going to be at DH's store today, so that means I am working lunch (and closing)

hmm, I just realized.. there are no pulltabs for sale at the gas stations here We don't drink so haven't set foot in any taverns/bars here (oh wait.. do they have taverns here?? A tavern for me is a place that makes /sells food AND serves alcohol, making it a respectable place to bring the family while getting drunk and gambling by buying baskets full of pull tabs. Where my inlaws live, more taverns than churches-- every tiny township has one and a few scattered on the back roads. My parents have one that they can get to by boat in the summer and snowmobile in winter if you wish, except they call it the "inn" since they have a handful of cottages to rent to drunken cold snowmobilers/drunken hot fishermen. )

I am so happy the baby is not outside anymore but it really frightened me. I don't understand why someone would put there baby outside in a stroller and then leave. And it was weird because the stroller was sitting facing the back door, almost like the baby was having a time out.

Very scary and sad.
I've heard that child rearing is different in other countries, leaving a baby (bundled up) in a carriage outside while the mum is inside having tea or shopping is very commonplace. The shops aren't big enough to accomodate the carriages inside.
In the news a few years ago,a lady visiting from another country did that in the US and got arrested for child endangerment.

So a scary thing happened today, well at least I thought it was scary. I was vacuuming the floor when I hear this horrible loud baby cry. I ignore it but it cries and cries for several minutes so I try to locate where the sound is coming from. I spot a baby in a stroller in the backyard of my neighbour across the alley way. The baby is all alone just sitting there crying. Nobody comes. The baby stops crying after about five minutes, maybe less but not much. So for an hour I panic, not sure if someone is home with the baby or if the baby has been abandoned or maybe the baby's mom has collapsed. Dh says I can't call the police because it hasn't been very long. So I wait for almost TWO hours and baby is still in the stroller kicking it's feet, fortunately it was bundled up. I decide something is very wrong so I'm about to call the police when someone comes adn takes the baby and stroller in the house.

That's awful Christina!! It's a good thing you called the police! I don't blame you for worrying either!!

Hubby thought your water comparison was spot on When Staley was showing us houses that she likes-- I looked at the pics and thought: Are u sure that's not in MN?? It's the pine trees..I remember reading somewhere that when people immigrated from Finland they chose MN or travelled on to WA, the pine trees reminded them of home.

My dad lived in Walla Walla during the war, his dad was a machinist and worked on the Manhattan Project (Hanford) .. I alway wondered if my grandfather felt more "home" there, I know my dad loved going out that way on business trips and at one time considered having us move out there.

Lots of Scandinavian folk live in Washington, for the same reason: It reminds them of home, whether that's ND/MN area or "the old country".

My folks came out from ND, and long-time neighbors of theirs are from a town about 10 miles down the road in ND. Small world!

My dad said his family lived in the Vancouver, WA area for a brief period during WWII. I'm not sure how old he was, age 4 or 5 I'd guess because he has some memories but was pre-school-age. I have no idea what brought my grandfather out that way, so far from home, but I had the idea it had something to do with the public works projects getting people back to work after the Depression.
