I'm still hoping we can get out of our lease a month early. DN told us that he is going home for June and July before he gets deployed, kind of last chance for a big family party before he leaves. And we're going to miss it

Is your lease through Aug. then?

I think the hottest weather I've been in was at Lake Havasu over Labor Day weekend. We were tent camping. The showers had only hot water and our Thermometer keychain on our boat keys broke becuase it was over 120 degrees. We spent most of the days inside WalMart because it was air conditioned. We slept on the boat in the middle of the lake but it was still hot.

yeah, that would not be ideal for anyone.

Was that last year's labor day? We went to DL that day, scorching HOT and everyone was wilting away at the park.. we lasted until 2 pm and called it a day..less lines that day, gee I wonder why

seeing as ive been mia can someone fill me in on the latest news in regards to the trip? whos coming/going, what are the hyena plans, anything new I need to know?

We slept on the boat in the middle of the lake but it was still hot.

Ugh. I think the hottest temps I've been in are around 110F, and it was totally miserable, especially at night, too hot to sleep. (We didn't have AC when we lived in the Bay Area.) I do not miss that!

Occasionally it will get real warm here, close to 100, but it cools off some at night. We don't have AC, we use fans to move the air around, but a couple times DH has mentioned getting a little AC unit. Worth it if we use it maybe 6 days a year???

No, it was like 5 years ago.

That's one thing I'm worried about for the DL Half Marathon...the heat. But at 6:00am it shouldn't be too bad. How are the crowds on Labor Day? Or the Sunday before. I'm not sure if after doing the 13.1 mile if I will want to walk around DL so we may go on Monday. I think we are staying Saturday night and Sunday night.

I find if you have AC you use it more often than planned.

For MN, we use it maybe two months of the year. It's not so much that it's hot (80's mostly, very rare to hit 90 - cooler at night), the humidity makes life unbearable.

With an apt, you don't get the cross breeze unless you have your door hanging open into the hall for everyone to walk by and see you.. too creepy.

oh my god i would never do labor day that marathon is going to make it worse for crowds as if it could get any worse

I haven't kept close tabs since I'm sort of peripherally involved (since I have the family with me.) But the hyenas are planning to get together on Sat. (26th) morning, I think at/near the DLH. I don't know that details have been ironed out (at least I haven't heard a time and specific location yet), but that's the plan so far.

And I'm not sure who all is coming, either? I think Pix, Shawna and Bernice are day-trippers, Moto, Staley, Tinkermell are doing the whole shebang. I'm probably forgetting a few people...

We were hoping you and Andrea could postpone leaving on Sat. to at least come to the hyena thing for a bit?

I'm going. I'll be getting in on Friday night and doing the Parks on Saturday and Sunday and leaving Sunday night. I think we are getting together on Saturday.

oh no we are going to be there...no worries...and since I am going solo I may just end up staying till sunday now...going to talk to melody tonight and we will iron out all the details

It was busy in the morning (lots of runner go to DL after the marathon), with the heat the crowds died off and the park was nearly empty by noon.


Isn't the family fun run in DCA the day before? That would make it crowded as well.

but bernice I think she is running the marathon right sarah? so the empty park wont benefit her and when she can go so will the other billion people too

That reminds me, does anybody know anything about the brown/black t-shirts for the Ladies Only meet? I know there were two different groups doing shirts, and to be honest, the pale blue one would make me look like death. I was so excited to see the brown/black option, and I love that pink crown! I want that shirt!!!

But I haven't heard anything about it since I saw it, the gal said she was going to be taking orders later...
