I've helped my mom get a few ideas for the kids, so she's happy. I bought a game this morning for DS7 (I was going to get it anyway, it's a game called Blokus and was recommended to me by the manager at our local Uncles Games store.) It sells for $30, but Drugstore.com had it for $21 today, I found it when I was just picking up a few essentials.
We realized last year that DS7 plays a game (Monopoly for instance) while thinking several moves ahead, so I had asked the manager about games that would develop this ability. He said this is an easy game to learn, but the better you get at thinking ahead, the more fun and challenging it is. Adults love to play it, too, so it's fun for the whole family. (Well, probably not something for DS3 yet...)
We also want to get DS7 into chess. I never could get the hang of it myself, but DH loves it, and DS7 seems to be naturally inclined to that sort of thing, so now seems like a good age to learn it. Somewhere I saw software to play a kids' game that teaches the essentials of chess gradually, and we decided to get it. (Now I just need to remember where I saw that!)
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? He's destined to geekdom, isn't he?
