*ducking*

I'm watching Doubt on the recommendation of a friend. I didn't think I would be gripped by it the way I am. It's incredibly good. BUT.. Meryl Streep drives me CRAZY. I keep expecting her to burst out laughing... felt the same way watching The Devil Wears Prada.

I'm not a fan.

I agree! Half the time her characters turn into over the top "carictures" of who she is suppose to be portraying. Very overrated.

To each their own. I LOVE Meryl and thought she was wonderful in Doubt. One of the greatest actresses of all time. :)

^^ Oh, I definitely expect that to be the consensus. But I think Amy Adams was soooo much better. I've loved her since Junebug and think that she just delivers 100x better than Meryl.

Julie & Julia should be interesting.

I also think Meryl Streep is one of the the best actoresses of our time. I love her in everything I have ever seen her in.

I have to agree that she is one of the best actresses ever. She really puts a lot of energy in the roles she plays. I can't remember the name of the movie right now, but she played a teacher in the inner city teaching violin. She actually learned to play the violin in about 6 months for the role. I saw her in Mamma Mia yesterday and couldn't believe how well she could sing. My favorite movie had to be Prime with Uma Thurman. I never laughed so hard.

OT Just saw Amy Adams when I was an extra in the moive the Fighter with Adams, Mark Walhberg and Christian Bale. She was very down to earth. In this moive she plays a gritty bar maid in the 80's.

I really like Meryl Streep. I recently read, however, that Katherine Hepburn was not a Streep fan and also accused the actress of overacting.

Ditto.
So sad to think some folks can't relax and enjoy her. She's someone who's never had to play the ingenue to make it. All Hail Meryl!!:worship::worship:

Hepburn was definitely fun to watch but she screamed through every film. Pot-meet kettle.

I think she is having more fun with the roles she takes. Why not? Life isn't always a trauma-drama. I would still rather watch a mediocre Streep movie than a "good" Julia Roberts movie.

I think she's the greatest actress to ever grace our planet, but to each their own LOL.

Only others that I really LOVE are Kate Winslet, Sally Field, Shirley Maclaine and Diane Keaton. Katherine Hepburn---- eh, not so much, for me.

Oh, I also really like Frances McDormand and Annette Benning

I love your list, but I would add Kathy Bates to it. She is one of my favorites!

When I watch Meryl Streep in a movie, I forget that it is Meryl Streep. She totally becomes the character. I don't feel that way about any other actress except Cate Blanchett. Kate Winslet is wonderful, but I always find myselft thinking, "Oh, there's Kate Winslet from Titanic", when she is on screen. With Julia Roberts, I just sit there and wait for the "Pretty Woman" laugh. Meryl is a true actress.

YES! I love Julia Roberts, but when I watch her I never forget I'm watching Julia Roberts! So overated.

Yea she doesn't thrill me, and I didn't like Doubt either! I had to turn it off half-way through cause I was so bored :confused3

Good point!

Ooh, true.

And that is why, sometimes, I won't watch a movie with Streep in it. TOO much, TOO serious. Too hard to watch. It's not that I think she overacts, it's just...she's going to BE that character, and sometimes there are things I don't want to see. Doubt doesn't interest me, because from the ads I know I'm going to HATE her character, and I don't like getting into movies quite that much, unless I enjoy hating the character (like Lord Cutler Beckett in POTC2&3).

Hubby just mentioned he'd never seen Silkwood, and I know I'm going to have to show it to him if only so he understands why I think Amazing Grace is a sad sad song, but it's going to be hard for me, because it's a hard movie for me to watch!
