Unofficial check-in for 2/23 Magic

Hi, MJ and all--

I just took a quick look at the shelf in my closet where I keep things I need for the cruise. I've heard that people really like the over-the-door shoe holders, especially with more than two people in the cabin. I like your suggestions about clothes pins--haven't heard that one before, but we always have trouble with wet swimsuits falling on the floor.

Here are my must haves:

Lanyards. Whenever I keep my key in my pocket, I'm always checking to be sure I haven't lost it.

Insulated mug. I have an old one from Coronado Springs. I really like it when I wake up early and can go up to deck 9 for some hot tea and a chocolate croissant. I take it back to the cabin to enjoy and wait for Ed to wake up. Yes, I know that I could get a styrofoam cup with lid--but it's not the same. This brings up my most favorite food on the cruise. Chocolate croissants. There are many wonderful things to eat on the Magic, but WOW I love those croissants. Can't wait.

Suntan lotion. I have a favorite brand that is not available in Pennsylvania. I'm almost out, so we need to stop at a drugstore in Orlando.

Hats. That Caribbean sun can be brutal.

I also have a soft sided kids' lunchbox that I always pack with various medicines, bandaids, etc. that we might need (and always hope that we won't need).

I'm always open to more suggestions. Three weeks from today!!!

Yeah...only 3 more weeks....

Karen....we may be having a change of plans. My son's friends are going to be at WDW from the 13th - 22nd and invited my son to stay with them one night. I might change my plans and instead of visiting my Aunt....pick her up and bring her to Disney with us and bring her back to Clearwater.

I am calling now to see what rates are available. We may be staying at All Stars also on the 20th or 21st. I took my Aunt (who is 82) to the Yacht Club in October for three nights. She absolutely didn't want to go to WDW, but later told me it was the best vacation she had ever had!!! She had no idea what it was really like!!! I'll have to see if she can take the difference from staying at YC Concierge to the All Stars!!!

MJ

If I seem to be here more than normal, it's because Ed is out of town and Riker (my miniature schnauzer) isn't talking much today.

MJ, we've stayed at almost every WDW resort, but we haven't been at the Yacht Club yet. Sounds like you consider it a cut above the All Stars, huh?

I'm usually deciding what to pack for a trip the night before, but this time I'm actually putting some thought into it. It will be interesting to see if I take the same stuff I would have packed anyway.

Keep posting--Karen

Hi! In case you missed it, Darlene will be on the cruise with us. She wants to know if we have any pin traders in our group.

Anyone? Anyone?

--Karen

I plan on being a first time pin trader. I have been collecting some pins over the last few DCL cruises and WDW trips.

I believe there is pin trading every night in the Atrium at 7:30. I'll check Navigator to see if that has changed.

MJ

Yikes! I just found out from my son that a very important business meeting is scheduled for March 1. Since we plan to be at Castaway Cay that day, I don't see how my husband will be able to make it. Keep your fingers crossed that he decides that the meeting is not THAT important.

I'm wondering if the cruise line would let me cruise with a different person than the one who is booked. Let's hope that I don't have to investigate the cost of cancelling. --Karen

Karen....oh no....that is too bad. I sent you a PM regarding a possible cancellation.

MJ

Karen-

I always have the fear when we have a vacation planned that my husband won't be able to make it. Fortunately, I've found that people are always very understanding and encourage him go on vacation and relax!

We're self-employed and one of our employees gave his 2 week notice today. Not very good timing! We're still going!!!

I hope it works out for you!!! I'm sure it will!

Hi, I am a single mom traveling with my son, age 7 and am looking forward to our first 7 nt Disney cruise. We enjoyed the 4 nt cruise last year and can't wait to spend a full week on a ship my son refers to as "paradise"!!!

I'm new to DIS but from what I've read, I guess we need to sport a bright green ribbon to show we enjoy this web site.

Looking forward to meeting you!!:pinkbounc :bounce:

Cadsburymom-

I haven't bought my bright green ribbon yet, but plan to! It's on my list of things I still have to get....it's coming up so fast and I still have so much to do!!!

HI,

MY NAME IS DARLENE RILEY AND I AM CHECKING IN WITH MY GROUP OF NINE ADULTS. WE HAVE FOUR COUPLES AND OUR FRIEND SUE, WHO IS SINGLE TRAVELING.

THIS IS MY 5 DISNEY CRUISE AND MY THIRD 7 DAY CRUISE IN THE LAST 13 MONTHS - YES, I LOVE CRUISING.

I ALSO AM BOOKED ON THE FIRST WESTERN CRUISE ON MAY 11 - I AM EXCITED AND LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW ROUTE.

I LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING EVERYONE AND I AM A BIG TIME PIN TRADER - WELL, NOT REALLY. BUT I DO LOVE PIN TRADING, SO LOOK FORWARD TO MEETING WITH ANYONE INTERESTED IN TALKING PINS.

SEE YA ALL REAL SOON.

DARLENE

IS ANYONE ELSE PACKED YET - OR IS IT JUST ME.

Our numbers are growing!!!!

I keep adding to the list at the beginning of this thread.

Looks like Ed & I are still a go. Thank goodness for grown children who can fill in for their parents sometimes. I have two wonderful sons--ages 25 and 27. I doubt if they'll ever go on a cruise with us--maybe someday when they have families of their own.

Note to Darlene: I never pack till the last minute, but I'm actually planning ahead this time!

welcome Darlene....I know what you mean about cruising....this will be our 5th DCL cruise, 2nd 7-day since July. We were on the maiden voyage of the Magic back on July 30, 1998!!!!

DCL has come a long with since then!!!! Looking forward to meeting onboard.

I started putting things in a basket as I think of them. Have not pulled out the suitcases yet....but soon!! Still have to press all my warm-weather clothes!!!!

MJ

Karen,

Thank you for adding our family to this list.

I however forgot to mention that my husband is also coming.

So our party is 2ad/1 child Brittany age 7.

Thanks

Lesle

Lesle--I made the change in the original list. Did you want to list adults' names?

MJ--I tried to PM you, but my message kept being too long. I kept deleting and deleting. Guess I'll have to talk to you in person when we meet. I have questions about your July cruise.

Judging from comments on the various threads, it sounds like a lot of germs on the ship. Hope it's all aired out before we get on board.

Karen

Please don't tell me anyone has started packing!!! I did start a pile of things to take!!! I like you're basket idea, MJ. I do have a list of what to bring. I'm not looking forward to going through the boxes of summer clothes, washing and ironing them!

We have early seating.

I mentioned to my three teens about starting to pack and they looked at me like I had three heads "Oh mom....please....what are you thinking! We have plenty of time" Yeah, right...I can forsee what will happen. The day before they will be searching for something that they wanted to bring and cannot find...I know the routine all too well.

Since we will actually be away for two weeks, I tried explaining to them that they still only need to pack for one week. We are going to have access to washers and dryers.

We are getting so excited, we can't stand it. That is all we talk about at home now.....but I have to do when Mike is working....since he can't come with us...
:(

MJ

Hi, MJ!

I hope Mike has vacation time for your July cruise?????

I'm with you--if it wasn't for these boards, I wouldn't have anyone to share my excitement with. Ed is in England on business until Valentine's Day. And somehow it seems rude to keep talking about the cruise with people who aren't going.

I am soooooo ready.

Karen

Karen....We sailed this past July on the 7 day and are booked for July of 2003 7-day Western.....I think the 17th.

I actually booked a triple. My two older ones will be in college by then I don't think they will want to go with us again. If they do I will book another cabin...
