What can be lame about a great state school where she's nearly entirely paid to go there?! If she knows someone who goes to school there, have her visit for a weekend, it will surely change her mind. Right now I commute about 30 miles a day to Med school, although it's really nice now because I can come home and not be distracted to finnish my work... it was nice to have the undergrad experience at a large school.
Don't regret anything about undergrad at all... best times of my life, even though I hated the city my college was in, I made some friends that will last a lifetime.

However, if not for my parents, I may never have even applied. I did so because they felt strongly about me having at least one in-state option. I, on the other hand, thought staying in-state was "lame." I tried my best to dislike PC and convince myself I was better off somewhere else, but in the end my heart told me that is where I belonged. My mom said to me when I left for college "you can be as close as you want or as far away as you want. We're 20 minutes away but if you never want to come home we understand, however, if you need us we're here. Your college experience is not based on how far you are from home but what you decide to do while you are there." Good advice. Tell your neice she is super lucky to have a great option and an unbelievable scholarship....I'm still paying my student loans and there seems to be no end in sight....lol. If she goes in with the right attitude, she will have a marvelous experience
