Universal experimenting with a system to eliminate line cutting

even if line cutting is an issue, this seems to be more trouble than it's worth.

Agreed. TM's get enough flack as it is. You're now going to make them bouncers?? All its going to do is upset people, which is bad for business.

Personally, I think it has the possibility of adding more time to the wait lines than just going ahead and loading the offensive parties..

Now the TM's have to collect and look at each card. And if they are not in order, they have to deal with it. This all adds extra time.

I can just imagine the next step: the little ticket dispensers at the beginning of the line and then the LED board at the loading area: "Now loading #'s 37 through 42. Please step up." :tiptoe:

It will be as efficient as the Driver's License Bureau :rolleyes1

And I don't care if you have a Phd in Mathematics - spending 8 hours looking at numbers, you head will be swimming and you are bound to forget what number you are currently on, causing yet another delay as the TM is forced to double check what number the next person is supposed to be.

I've actually never seen line cutting but then I'm always in the express line.

We saw a few teenagers jump from the regular line to the express line at the Mummy. The person working there saw them too and yelled at them to get out and said "we don't allow line jumping here!"

That's an excellent point. Upsetting people is bad for business.

But the question you have to ask is - will you upset more people by making line-jumpers go to the back of the line, or by NOT making line-jumpers go to the back of the line?

They've been doing it one way for a long time, and lots of people have been complaining about it. Now they're trying it the other way - let's see how many line-jumpers have the nerve to complain about very clear and easy to understand rules (i.e. 1 gets on first, followed by 2, then 3, then 4, etc.) are actually being enforced. I'd like to hear some of those complaints - "I tried to jump in line ahead of 50 people and that TM made me get in line at the back! That was totally uncalled for and I believe that I have a right to go to the front of any line!"

I don't know if this number card system will work or not; it sounds like a good idea in theory, but as others have said, it might cause more problems than it solves. But if it does work, I hope it's put into operation at all of the attractions with linear queues that have problems with jumpers.

I have noticed that line cutting is especially prevelant on Hulk. That is why i stand with a hand on each rail, basically making a road block. This way they have to ask me if they can get by and if they are a group of kids i ask WHY? They usually just stop where they are or i had one group point to people that they said i could not see cause they were behind the wall at the loading point. I just looked at them since we had just started up the incline and said you can not make it that far before the next car loads so i guess you will just have to catch up with them later and continued to block thier path.
Some groups of kids tend to be more upset and vocal about getting caught than others. :cool2:

I had kids cut in front of me to join their friends, and I just don't think it's that big of deal. .

It isn't when it is only a few but I have experienced school tour parties push in and you are talking 20+, which is a large number to get on in front of you expecially if you have been waiting a while.

what about this scenario? Group of 10-15 people is in line with their new numbered tickets but decides they're going to be late for a lunch meeting with another group, so they go out of line, do the people who were behind them have a problem then?

Since this system is new, they may not have worked the bugs out of it yet, but my assumption is that those 10-15 people would, logically, hand the numbered cards back to the TM at the entrance when they leave the line, and that TM would have to notify the TMs inside that there will be a gap of 10-15 people in the sequence.

Of course, the people ahead and behind the missing 10-15 would confirm that a large group actually left the line.

That sounds crazy to me! I'm on vacation, not at work. That and I think you give people too much credit for doing the right thing (returning the #'s). Just my opinion but I believe this system would fail miserably. This scenario featured a group leaving the line, it would be just as confusing and time consuming if clusters of couples did the same.

You may or may not be right, only time will tell.

However, I don't think I'm givint people too much credit when it comes to returning the numbers - people return the 3D glasses to HISTA, ITTBAB, Muppetvision, T2, and Shrek all the time. Why wouldn't they hand the number cards back to the TM they got them from in the first place, especially since if they leave the line they have to go right past the TM to get out?

Hey, my friend works at Hulk, and I know what you were talking about. They first started it for Grad Bash. There was also a UO Security Officer at the loading platform to escort those out if they needed to. It was for another event as well. Not sure which one.

while this number card thing may not work.....I agree that there needs to be a system in place for line jumpers.

our last trip I saw it at MIB - weren't the perps surprised when a 2nd TM at the end of the queue asked for their FOTL cards and before they could make up anything, bean #2 says "they budged in line and ran under the ropes!" :thumbsup2 atta girl!!! :cutie:

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

I am a line blocker too, It really bothers me for someone to be so rude, to think that they are more important than me! I have been just about run over in the Mummy by teenagers.

if you give them room to squeeze past you they are by you before you realize what has happened. if you stop thier forward motion the main stragagy of thier plan has been check mated. For me to let them by there had better be someone up ahead waving to them and asking me to let them by so they can join up with thier party. They count on everyone being so "on vacation" to just let them by without a word. :cool2:

I'm curious how it would work on dueling dragons...:confused3

Me too, because the Express Pass people just merge in with the stand-by people. I don't like it when it's busy, because stand-by people don't want to let Express Pass people in......they don't understand, or maybe they do....

they figure they've waited LONG ENUF and they're jealous....that's why they don't like to let you in .....if YOU were THEM, wouldn't YOU feel the same way? :confused3

This may be new to Universal, but is actually a very old concept. Six Flags in IL was doing this ten years ago. Worked mostly like a charm there, although we did still see the occasional brass ballers daring to argue with the employees because they had no number and no explanation and believed they should be allowed to ride anyway.
