Universal experimenting with a system to eliminate line cutting

My friend Frank called me this evening after a day at Universal and reports that Universal is experimenting with a new system designed to eliminate line cutting.

When he went to the Hulk coaster today, a Uni TM was handing out individually numbered cards to every Guest.

The cards are collected at the boarding area, and if your card is out of order by more than a few people, you are ejected from the line without riding.

No word yet on if or when this system might go into use on other attractions.

Hmm...interesting concept. I wonder if it will work? From past experience, I honestly don't see much line cutting..if any.

I've actually never seen line cutting but then I'm always in the express line.

I've never seen line cutting either, but I have never been when the large groups of rowdy teens are there. Maybe this is something that would only be used during those periods? I dont know, but maybe there have been complaints about it then.

I've never experienced line cutting at Universal. Not even during HHN.

Then all of you people are very very lucky. Line cutting is always a big problem, especially during HHN. Pretty much anytime you get a large group of kids together....lines will be cut. However, I dont know if I like this system....seems like a waste of time, because it will probably be very hard to enforce without causing major problems.

I used to work at Shrek at Universal and line cutting WAS a big problem at times. People would cut under the railings if they saw even a small lag in the people being sent up from the real entrance area. Very hard to deal with as people thought we were being mean or impolite when we told them they needed to go to the real entrance. I always worked very hard to BE polite, but still firm about not allowing line cutting as it is unfair to those who DID go the real entrance.

Line cutting is always a big problem, especially during HHN.

We'd have to agree. While we don't encounter much line cutting during the day, during HHN we always see people trying to cut lines. The excuses they come up with when they get caught are always entertaining!

I just got back from US,May 4-11th. Had a great time with only one exception. While waiting in line for Dudley do-right ..we were almost at the end where you zig/zag down to the entrance and there were 4-5 older teens ( african-american) saying excuse me...and pushing past everyone.They did it so fast you don't really have time to say "hey" or stop them. A few people started getting annoyed when they forced their way past and started yelling at them. They made thier way down to the entrance and by then a "bigger" guy was leaning over the railing telling the ride operators that "those 5 people had cut in line". In the end they were escorted out of the ride and everyone was cheering. That wasn't the end though.... moments after that happened we were about 3 or 4 log rides to get on....the power went off!
We had just waited @ 30 min and now we were told we couldn't get on the ride and were asked to exit . Dissapointing to say the least as it was going to be my first time on the ride...and I was already wet from the Bilge-rat Barges so I was geared up to go on...oh well.

If memory serves me, that was on Sunday the 6th....and I think, though I may be wrong,that lightning struck one of the generators....or so I was told. Darnit Universal, when are you going to be like disney and control the weather!

Just curious - what was the need to add the race of the line cutters? Was there a significance to this as related to line cutters at Universal?

And I am at a loss at how the line cutters had anything to do with lightning striking and causing you to miss the ride. Would you have been able to go on the ride if the line cutters had not pushed their way to the front? Did Universal not remove the line cutters in time, causing you to miss your turn to board the logs, thereby causing you to miss the ride?

Not trying to be snarky, but just trying to determine the significance of your comments.

We have also seen line cutting on JPRA where the regular line folks hop over into the express line when/if no one is looking or checking for express passes.

No its not....using a slur would be racist and sterotyping. That is merely stating a fact....though I dont see a point to posting a race, but it is not racist nor is it stereotyping, by definition. Just my two cents.

Nope, don't see that as racist at all. Brazilian is not a race, it is a country of origin. You are describing a tour group from outside the US, who may or may not have the same values on standing in line as Americans. I would think that could possibly be pertinent information when planning a trip.

Although I can see why some might be offended if race is included in a description of bad behavior, as some may see it as a subtle suggestion that only African-Americans (or whichever race was named) are line cutters or whatever unacceptable behavior is being discussed.

I have been cut in front of numerous times in Mummy. It seems to always happen right inside the doors, right after they check the Express passes. I have had kids from the regular line ditch under the rail and jump into the express line. Then when they ask for the Express passes again at the top of the stairs before loading, the excuses that they lost their pass, or hubby has it at the back of the line, etc are hysterical. But I have never seen a linecutter asked to go back to the end of the line. Doesn't bother me much though because the Express line loads so quickly anyway.

I had kids cut in front of me to join their friends, and I just don't think it's that big of deal. If they do the number thing thats cool, but I'm not going to get upset and let a few kids ruin my good time.

I apologize if namng their race upset anyone, I only put that in as a refrence to who was budding in. And yes..they did cause a rucas at the end of the line causing some delay of others getting on... and no I suppose the lighting ( which we didnt know at the time) didn't have anything to do with the line cutters...but it did close the ride down and caused everyone else and me , to miss thier turn on the ride. I was merely telling what happened to me on the ride that day. Being a newbie on here I suppose I shouldn't have put in the race comment...i'm sorry.
