We have just decided last minute to attempt Universal. We are staying off site and my son mainly wants to do roller coasters. I know the parks will be crowded and I expect to pack my patience..However, do you recommend Sunday 12/28 (rope drop for off site) or Wed 12/31 which I am concerned because its New Years Eve.
Then which park would you recommend and should I head to Harry Potter first and purchase the fast pass for the rest of the rides.

We decided on today because we figured NYE would have been worse and then didn't have to deal with everyday work traffic on I4. However it was an early morning. We got to park at 7:30, paid for preferred parking which was about 8 dollars more. We were able to go thru gates by 7:45 and headed straight to HP Gingrots which was already 75 minutes wait but DH and DS decided to do single riders which was about 30 minutes. The rest of the park wasn't busy. By 8:30 the wait was 140 minutes. Thank god for single riders lines. Transformer was 30 min Standby line, then off to Rock it 10 minutes single riders, 30 minute standby. Mummy ride twice 20 minute SB, 5 minute single rider. MIB 30 minute SB, 5 minute single rider. ET 30 minute wait. By the time we wanted to head over to IOA around 11:30 crowds were crazy. 75-100 minutes on Rock it and 140 minutes for Transformers, even single riders lines were long. Since the Train over to IOA was 60 minutes we decided to just walk over which was 15 minutes. Since the Dragon ride had been closed all day we were lucky it had just opened and was only 15 minute wait but you could not move in Harry Potter area. FJ was 90 minutes wait and DS decided not to wait. Just a note the train ride back to Universal for IOA side was only 15 minutes, so if you really want to take the train and you are going to both parks I would check time frame from IOA. Spiderman was 70 minute SB and single riders 30 minutes. passed up water rides, they were 75 minute waits and by the time we left around 2, Incredible Hulk was 75 minute wait and single rider line was closed because it got to long but the attendant was very nice and since we told her it was our last ride before leaving park and heading home she escorted my son through the exit area and got right on ride...YEAH!!!

So we set out on a mission and accomplished both parks in 6 hours Christmas week but it was a 5:30am wake up call but worth it. My son loves roller coasters and said the Dragons ride was the best!!pixiedust:
