universal bans bottled water

It's only much ado about nothing if you aren't in the habit of bringing beverages into the parks- and an awful lot of people are. Just cutting out buying 1 drink a day saves us $15 or so for us - every day. Mulitiply that by a week and it's not small change.

If you go enough times, maybe you'll save $20K. ;)

I always love replies like this - "I don't do <insert thing here>, so it's not a big deal". People who didn't use paper FPs didn't think the switch to FP+ was a big deal either. Different things affect different people, news at 10.

Except one was a change of stuff that cost nothing and the other costs money.

Amazing upset folks get when things are free and not to their liking. But when it requires an extra expense, they beg to pay more.

what if it is a security thing - like at airports....makes you wonder if they have received a threat or if they are perhaps being proactive from a safety point of view. There is a lot of crazy stuff going on in the world right now. Just a thought.

But they don't ban all items that are liquid and over 3oz.

According to a dear friend who has AP at Universal, they have had a very hard time lately with people bringing in alcohol disguised as water......and with Mardi Gras, it's probably even more insane.

Don't know Universal's policy, but Disney will give you a paper cup of ice water for free at any CS restaurant....so to me, there is no reason to lug around a water bottle. If US also gives out free water, then they are not forcing you to purchase drinks to have the same thing you would have with a water bottle.

Or, if you really want to carry a water bottle around and refill it, then just come with an empty bottle....that's what I do at the airport.

I fill my mug at the resort- on the way to transportation. So it's not a moot point. If the only time I can use the free refills is when I'm at the resort, it's hardly worth the price.
Did you even read the link in the OP or are you just arguing because it's me? They banned bottled water, not all liquids.

Alcohol conceals better in a dark liquid.

If folks are sneaking in alcohol, seems rather silly to focus just on the clear alcohol.

But it makes a great cover story.

Interesting that on the Universal thread, someone there is saying that they watched the guards make a guest pour out pre mixed baby formula. Weird and wrong.

I sure hope they stop this before my trip! I planned on bringing in water for my family of four and will be ticked if I have to pay for it at the extraordinary upcharge they price their bottled water at. Honestly if bottled water were reasonably priced at these places then it wouldn't be an issue, but when you buy a case of water for 6 bucks and they charge almost 3 bucks per bottle, that's just robbery. Our local theme park doesn't allow drinks or food to come in and it is a huge pain in the butt. Being able to bring drinks and snacks is one of the things I love about the Orlando parks.

They don't seem to be worried about iPads, phones and other small brick-sized personal electronics that are prevalent in the parks. Disney lets people take in small coolers, the linings of which could be filled with god knows what. If there was a credible security threat, you can bet that practice would be outlawed immediately. This is either a money-grab or a genuine attempt to prevent alcohol issues at US.

Most people know drinks are an expense to add to the budget when on vacation. I think $3 for a bottle of water is pretty darn reasonable at Disney. I don't know what it costs at Universal, but it really doesn't matter, since you can still ask for free ice water and there are plenty of water fountains/sinks to fill a bottle.

The link says any liquid- not just water bottles btw.

For families on a budget, $3 a drink for 4, 5, 6 people adds up quick. It's a cheap move on Universal's part. I don't buy the alcohol excuse for a second. Especially if they're forcing parents to dump out formula. I wonder how many people try and sneak in booze in the baby's formula.

Did you?

"Universal Orlando is currently not allowing guests to bring bottled water or other liquids into CityWalk or its theme parks".
Yup, I did and at the time I read it, it referred to bottled water only. There was no mention of other liquids.

I didn't even think of this? Formula is expensive, or could you imagine if they asked you to dump out pre-pumped breast milk? I really hope that's an exaggeration.
