Those flying United should keep an eye on things. The courts have approved eliminating pensions and the machinist and flight attendants aren't happy. May be strikes/slowdowns.

At this stage who knows what will happen.

We switched from flying to driving to WDW after 9/11, but we decided to fly again this trip (leaving Sunday). The timing of this is awful. Delta is in trouble, USAirways (that's who we're flying Sunday) is in trouble, and now this garbage from United.

The whole ariline inustry seems to be a house of cards.

I sure hope so safetymom, but labor troubles have a way of spreading. I am terribly anxious about flying as it is, and this isn't helping.

Yep, manning it is making me nervous. We're flying Ted next week. I almost think a strike would be easier to deal with than a slowdown. At least we would know.

We're flying United at the end of June, so along with them changing my flight times, now I can worry about not having a flight at all!

I guess I should be grateful that they changed our flights. I haven't confirmed the change yet and was told last week that I could get a refund or change my flights.

What does anyone think I should do? Wait it out and see what happens or get a refund and start shopping again? The one thing I know I'm not going to do is confirm the changes, at least not at the moment.

I hate flying..... I hate flying.... I hate flying....

Now I know why the customer service rep laughed at me when my wife and infants plane sat idle on the runway for 4hrs causing them to miss their connecting flight.

This company(people) have problems..

I think I would expect more of the same, in fact I would bet on it!

There will delays all over the place...not to mention the possibility of sabotage...(in order to ground the plane..i.e. prevent it from taking off) an awful thing to say but some people can get quite aggressive and vicious during these labor disputes and I would suspect that there could very well be at least one individual with a real mean streak amongst these disenfranchised workers who just might go over the deep end.

Heck I remember years ago when my hospital went out on strike (lucky for me I had a vacation previously scheduled so I missed the whole thing), but there were many nurses who did all sorts of crazy things and some who were fired and at least one arrest...so you just never know what your dealing with in these types of situations. :sad2:

We had United free flight certificates that we turned in, so now we have
'Ted' tickets for our trip in August. (I need to tell DH to start taking the American flights again!) If we do end up losing those August flights, maybe we'll have to drive to Orlando :guilty: . We've done it before, it's not that awful(14 hours), but then again, not my favorite thing to do. And the trip down is always a lot of fun, but that trip back...

agnes!

For once we are in an envious position. We are retired, so we can take a nice slow drive down and back.

Lucky you. My husband is supposed to fly United tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, four of us are on Ted. We'll see what happens. I would actually enjoy the drive but I'm the only one. Plus at the last moment, it would be hard to make arrangements for our dog, hotel, etc..

My husband, the eternal optimist, is not worried in the least. :earseek:

just my own experience - but even during disputes, i have had relatively few problems with united. less so than with other airlines.

i'm flying united next week for business and the week after for vacation. i'll hope for the best.

94% of IAM workers with United voted to strike if bankruptcy court allows United to reject the current labor contracts.

United is in court today asking permission to void the contracts.

I think we're just going to sit tight and see what happens in the next few days and weeks. We have the option for a refund, so if need be, that's what we'll do.

We're a union family and we don't cross picket lines, that's just the way it is.

I believe US Airways is safe through the end of June.

Last year up here in chicago we went through this with ATA. The unkown. So of course I switched back to O'hare & TED. Great. Hopefully this will blow over by august? ::MickeyMo :wizard: ::MickeyMo Maybe?
