Our son will be turning 10 (3) weeks after our Disney vacation this summer, and unfortunately we have a wedding that we must attend over his birthday weekend. We're trying to decide if we'd like to celebrate his birthday while we're at Disney, but would like to make sure the experience is memorable and doesn't just blend in with the trip as a whole. I know about the buttons, and cakes at TS restaurants, as well as the room decorations/gifts, but I'm wondering if there is something more extravagant that could be done? I'm thinking something along the lines of Darth Vader and a few Storm Troopers delivering his birthday cake to him while we're at the pool for an afternoon! Perhaps a special meet and greet in one of the parks? My wife thinks I'm crazy, but is something like this even possible? If so, would I just have to mortgage the house, or take a loan against my 401k as well to pay for it? What other ideas can you think of or know that people have done in the past?

Disney won't allow characters to be the ones to give gifts to anyone, there is nothing like that that you can set up.

Depending on your son's interests there are some things I would suggest- doing a makeover at pirates league followed by the pirates and pals fireworks cruise, or one of the private tours- MK has a train tour, not sure if that would be appropriate for his age or not, Animal Kingdom has some animal types of tours, I believe epcot has something with diving in the tank with the dolphins, and I think there is also a thrills tour where a private tour guide takes you around to the thrill rides and you get to skip the lines on those. There is also parasailing on the lake, fishing on the lake, seado rentals on the lake, etc. There is horseback riding at the campground and archery lessons.

You can also do something yourself and have it be from the characters- for example on my dd's bday I had gifts from the princesses wrapped in their corresponding colors and all themed to be from that princess (ie a wishing star necklace from Cinderella, etc.) and had them laid out for when she woke up in the morning. They were magically delivered by tinker bell lol. If you want to get creative you might be able to do something like that from the star wars characters. If you don't want to get creative you can go online to Disney floral and look at the in-room celebrations that the resort will deliver to your room for you.

Good luck!

Take a thrill rides special tour. Order a "Kitchen Sink" at Beaches n' Cream. Take a ride in an Amphicar at Disney Springs. Take a balloon ride at Disney Springs. Go on a Disney fishing excursion. Go to the Lego Store and let him get the biggest fanciest Lego kit. Go to Cirque du Soleil La Nuba at Disney Springs.

Yes, these are great. I'm bumping this thread because we'll be at WDW for DS3's 7th birthday. What should we do? Where should we dine? Is there a restaurant where they do something special for birthday boys? I like the Kitchen Sink idea, as we are planning to do that anyway, and it feels very celebratory. :bday:
