Unique Baby Girls names??

We just had a baby 6 weeks ago today. We named her Emma Rheann. We have loved Emma for a long time even though it has gotten popular. DH really liked Rheann as it is celtic. Our oldest daughter is Sarah Margaret.. Again, we loved Sarah as it is classic and Margaret is a family name on both sides..

I too also like Addison!

I am a Labor and Delivery Room Nurse and DH is an OB/GYN. Unfortunately, this is NOT an urban legend. We have seen SEVERAL of these through the years! As a matter of fact, one of the children was in the paper (a second grader now) not too long ago, and I asked DH, "Do you remember this one?"
He said, "How could I forget!!!"

There are some real dooseys out there. You just wish people would think about the child as a person that is gonna be stuck with the crazy name for their whole life!!!
Donna

I searched high and low all over the net for concrete proof of the "boy/girl jello twins." Here they are for everyone to see -- Le'mongello and her twin brother, O'rangello. . .

I've always been proud of my name, Alyssa. I've only known one other person around my age with the name, but I know many little girls with the name. My mom was a trendsetter in the 70s!

My DD's name is Elena, after one of DH's students. Not common at all, we call her Ellie.

I gave my sons pretty traditional names, John and Ben, after departed grandfathers. We call John "Jet" though, because it's his initials, and Ben's full name is Bennett, a twist on the traditional!

Gave my daughter a common name, but an uncommon spelling:

Chelsie

Actually, she hates that her name isn't common. She would love to have all of the neat little cups & necklaces, etc. with her name on it, but it's always spelled Chelsea!

Honestly, if I had to do it all over again, I would have given her a common name with a common spelling! :thumbsup2

When I was pregnant with DS, before we knew we were having a boy, DH and I wanted Ceridwyn (Ker-id-win) Raven for a girl's name. My mother is forever grateful it turned out we were having a boy. She is not one for unique names. She also talked us out of Harrison for DS.

I'm one of those people who prefer that girls names sound like girls names and boys names sound like boys names. There's a kid on DS' soccer team (co-ed) that we still don't know if it's a boy or a girl and can't tell based on name. I've run into that more than once (Jordan, Robin, Taylor, Alex)

I agree with you. I said if we had a boy he would have a name that would be good for a bank president. Otherwise, he could grow up, work in the White House and be named Scooter. Heaven forbid.

But back to the original quote. I had a dormmate in college whose boyfriend had one of those confusing gender-neutral names. Interestingly enough, so did his roommate. Now, this was back in the day (and they may still do it, I haven't set foot in a college dorm in 20 years) where they would put your name on the door in some clever, noticeable way. Well, the gender-neutral-named boys thought it would be great fun to send their girlfriends over on the first day of check-in to pretend to unpack. This was also before the days of co-ed dorms, and there was many a mom freaking out because they thought a couple of hussie girls would be living among their precious baby boys.

BTW - I have a Mary Claire. I had never heard of it when we named her, but now we know four more. I guess you never know what will be popular.

I've always been fascinated with how names that are so popular in one place, can be virtually unheard of in another place......

I have twin girls named Bailey and Jaidyn. Bailey is a very uncommon name around here---I know only one other girl with that name, and she's 12 years older than "my" Bailey. Jaidyn (usually spelled Jadyn here) however is very popular as a girls name in our area. I've never minded though since I still love that name!

Other girls names that are mega-popular here:
Madison,Madalyn,Taylor, Morgan, Megan, Olivia, Grace, Hannah, Abigail/Abby, Kaitlyn, Sarah, Jessica/Jessie, Nicole

Here's some more unusual (at least for our area) girl names:
Holbrook, Tanyon, Jessa, Jewell, Haidyn, Kinsey, Karsen, Karlie, Toleka, Annika, Kennedy (popular elsewhere but virtually unheard of here!), Micah, Blayne, Kendall, Clara, Rylie, Kenya,Teigan, Aspen,Cadence,Shalome, Tessa,Sommer, Autumn,Brynn.

Really I think so much of it depends on where your niece lives, and what names are popular there.

Just to let you know that Ceridwyn (or Ceridwen) is Welsh and not very common these days, even in Wales!

My wife wanted a diferent kind of name for our daughter, she heard an Amy Grant song, Sharayah and that's what we called our daughter. It was that or Heaven Lee.

I haven't met any girls with my dds names-Miranda and Veronica, Randi and Ronnie for short.

Other names on my list were Marley, Paige, Josie, Nora and Ngaire (pronounced Ny-ree).
we know to miranda's

Our daughter's name is Calise (Kuh-leese) and it means "most beautiful" in Greek. My husband and I searched for quite a while for this special name. She is 8 years old and has two brothers, Aaron (19) and Matthew (15).

I just thought of two more (they were actually on my list, but I had two DS's instead)

Phoebe
Sally (I believe this is short for Elizabeth, so if they gave her the name Elizabeth at birth and called her Sally as a littel girl, she could easily change to Elizabeth when she got older if Sally sounded too juvenile)

Interesting thread. We too love these types of names, and for our 2 girls, we use:
Caroline (maybe not the most unique, but a beautiful name)
Lara (not Laura, that's what makes it interesting!)

Cheyenne is very popular around here. A couple of the girls have an alternate spelling one of them is Shyanne. Someone mentioned Bailey and we have alot of those too. Now as far as some of the names (and I guess Bailey would be one ) that people can't tell if they're boys or girls well that just really p's me off because most of these names were boys names and someone thought it would be cute to name their girl that. So now some really good boys names are given to girls.

My name is pretty uncommon, but not too wild....Corinna
Some others that I like that fall in that category are: Payton (my fav), Kayley, had a friend named Sundaye, I also like some place names like Cheyenne & Montana.

Heaven Leigh was a name I thought about when preg w/my oldest now 15 but he ended up being a boy so he got his dads name

CARINA ADAR was another name that was considered for him--Then when I got preg w/my third(DD8) and knew she was going to be a girl I had KIMBERLEIGH CAITLIN for the longest time but DS had a "girlfriend" named Michelle and he wanted to name his sister that so I gave him the baby name book and told him to find a name to go with Michelle and after a few minutes he came back with CARINA---I knew she was meant to be Carina since her brother had picked the same name from the book that he was going to be if he had been a girl!!

P.S. He wanted her to be Michelle Carina---I named her Carina Michelle which I still hear about to this day!

Another name I thought about for DD4 was ARIANA
Still can't find my list-dang it!
