Unique Baby Girls names??

Here are some names I like:

Juliette
Alexandra
Christelle
Evelyn
Victoria
Felicity
Veronica
Lynette
Brigitte
Suzette
Lucia
Lily
Bernadette
Marilyn/ Marilynne
Samantha
Estelle

I like "ette" and "elle" endings a lot, very feminine/French names, and some old fashioned ones, too.

I have a student named Jassmena, which I think it unique and pretty. My friend wants to name her future daughter Anemone. I've also had a student named Amaryllis (like the flower). And I met a woman with a baby named Winter. (called her Winnie)

OTOH, here are two FACTUAL "overly unique names". 1. A girl in my nephew's preschool class named "La Zanya" pronounced like the food. 2. My aunt had a student named "Female" (Fuh-Molly) and commented to her mother that it was such a unique name and asked where she got it from. The mother told my aunt "The hospital named her. It was on the papers." This woman actually thought the hospital named her daughter "Female" and didn't know what "female" really meant. Oddly enough, last year a student of mine was telling me a story about her uncle (a DYFS agent going to a house with a girl named "Female" and told the exact same story, except the girl is now 19 or so.

Oh the "Lemon Jello" story, I do know an older woman a friend of my mom's with the last name Limongello which people often mispronounce "Lemon Jello".

LIBERTY is an awesome name-unique for sure, but not over the top.
OR
ASHLEE-BRIELLE (THIS WOULD WORK SO WELL WITH MY LAST NAME)

Whatever she chooses, check the meaning of the name. This was very important to me, and so Molly was out because it meant sorrow (any derivative of Mary does.)

That is why I can't believe Regan has appeared so many times here. Regan was the sister in King Lear who stabbed out her own father's eyes. I always think of that when I hear that name.

I also agree with the poster who said to avoid weird spellings. The Irish spelling of DD's name is Caiolinn. DH wanted to keep that spelling. I said no. There was no way people were going to call her Cow-lin.

Here are the ones I keep in my head in case we ever adopt a girl:

Harlee
Ayden
Anya
Kinsey

I also think Mattea is pretty!

My eldest daughter's name is Somer (Summer) and our youngest's name is Parker Olivia.

My granddaughter's names are Keianna (KEY-onna) and Aerianna

My favorite unique name is Brooklyn Jade but our baby days are over :sad1:

:thumbsup2 Keep them coming this is great! Lots of neat names! I hope she thinks soo!!

After a few years of teaching, here are some unique girl names I've had in my classes:

Dallin
Merlyn
Cerise (sir-eese) - it's a color
Jillian (not unusual, but not popular here)
Gennifer (not used much anymore - only 1 in seven years)
Gale
Marissa

My DD17 is Tory Katherine--People always ask if her name is Victoria---Nope!
My DS15 is Ryne Nicholas--(not pronounced like RYAN) he corrects people all the time.

My sister is pregnant also with a girl....her name will be Londyn Ashleigh.

My daughter's name is Alyvia (pronounced like Olivia with an A). I guess the hormones got the best of me when I spelled it, because I wanted it to be different. The problem is that some people can't figure out what to call her, :sad2: she has even been called elvira!!!

I also love the name Ella

I have to break it to everyone here, if you haven't figured it out from reading the whole thread yet....these names are NOT unique:

Kiley (kylie) or any other variation
Riley (Rylie) or any other variation
Kaylee (Kayleigh)" " " "
MacKenzie
Michaela (OR the absolute wrong way to spell it Makayla)

In fact I can not swing a dead rat by the tail in my neighborhood without hitting a dozen of the above.

Same goes for the following boys names that parents think are so unique:

Owen
Mac
Keegan
Connor
Grant
etc etc

i think if you want to be unique, give your kid a standard name . In trying to be unique your little Madleine will be one of 500 Maddies in her school. But I bet you a shiny penny that if you name her Mary (which by the way, what name could be better than the name of the mother of Jesus?) she will be the ONLY Mary in her school. Same goes for good ole Joe or John. Katherine.

Moral _ don't try to be to unique...everyone else is, which in itself makes it not unique.

_Side note - Some of the dumber names I've heard lately - Allyn (allen) The mom thought it was a pretty version of allison - allison and lynn combined - but it wasn't - it just sounds like an old mans name and everyone has to ask 3 times what the name is until they understand. Other one was Hunt for a boy (don't even get me started on the misunderstandings with that one) Also the names that are just mispelled to be different - it doesn't look different, it just looks like you don't know how to spell.

I just remembered two names I found in our baby name search that I adored but dad nixed them -

Kerensa, a Cornish name meaning "love"
Maura, the Irish variant of Mary

Just curious...what are your 4 kids names?

My dd does have a common name, Hannah, and we weren't trying to be different, just liked it (Since we dated in college 10 years earlier, mind you)

My sons do have truly unique names, so far. One is Brennan...I have heard a few around but only about 3. The other one is Declan (americanized version of Irish Deaghlan (sp?) and I have NEVER heard his name around (although usually someone knew one person named it somewhere in their life). Again, not trying to be unique, just don't like the traditional boy names too much.

BTW...Joe is still as popular as ever. I know 4 little kids named Joe right now.

Names I love are:
Kerry-love it, love it, love it!!!!

Ryan-I know it's a boy name but so is Kerry and I love that!

My Kerry is a girl and as someone else said she too is a Kerry Ann. All girls on my side of the family have the middle name Ann. My Grandmother's name was Ann - that being the reason.

Some were talking about boys names. My ds is Daniel, but he goes by Dan and only Dan. He is not named after any male on either side of our family. I wanted him to have his own name and it is so fitting for him. Although what might seem like a common name, once you meet him he is nothing in the lines of common. He is my free spirit and Kerry is my old soul.

I wanted dd to have a name that wouldn't stand out in the business world, she could make herself out to who she wants to be. As others have said, I didn't want a name that sounded adolenscent when she was in her 30's.

For boys I think that you have to be careful too. Sometimes if you give them some off-the-wall name or something that sounds adolenscent you have to think of the repercussions that may happen when they are older and trying to make a go in this world. That is of course unless your parents that are famous and it doesn't really matter what your name is, because those folks come up with some whacko names.

Oh, just to keep on topic - another name I liked when I was pg with dd was Annabeth.

as someone who grew up with an unique name, be careful. You child may hate you for it!!! My DM has a common name (for the 30's) but an unusual spelling and people always get it wrong. She has spent the last 70 years correcting people. Her name is Maryln, but most people spell it Marilyn like in Marilyn Monroe.

You would think she would have learned her lesson, but no, I have a unique name with a common spelling and I have spent the last 40 years telling people not only how to pronounce it, but also how to spell it. I really wish I had a common name that people knew how to say and spell. My name is Rae Jean except its said as one word as in Raejean. I have been called Rainjane, Rae, Regina, Raelean. I pretty much answer to anything close and take any spelling that you put down as long as its nothing legal.
